CHAPTER SEVEN
I definitely had his full attention now. Even though Levi was eyeing me warily, he didn't return the coins. "Okay, well. Uhm. This is… hard to explain… but… let me use you!" I blurted, and Levi closed his fingers around the coins, now eyeing me even more warily. Ah, great. "Erm! I mean! There's kind of some people who want to beat me up right now. I'm sure the fact that I won all these coins isn't helping that number go down. But, you're kind of a street fighter. right? Also, you're supposed to become the best swordsman ever, so, help me out so I don't get jumped by a gang, and I'll give you coins and also help you become a knight or something like that! Plus, I have divine power, so I can bypass the curse for you! Pleaseeee, I don't have anyone else to turn to!" I begged, grabbing a confused Levi's hands to add to the drama. I don't really have any shame or pride. As you can see. Levi was now looking straight into my eyes, and his mouth was a thin, straight line. I'd seen that in mangas sometimes. pondering. Usually just before they were about to say no.
"Who… are you? And how do you know about my curse?" Levi said, even more on guard, jerking his arms away and quickly pocketing the coins. Wow. Street talents??? I couldn't even catch where he put the coins.
"Uhm… I… can't say!" I fibbed hurriedly.
"You can't say?" Levi repeated, growing more skeptical every minute, and I made up an excuse off the top of my head. Luckily, if you're a writer, you also probably have a talent for lying and spinning stories. "Yeah! I have an oath of silence! Because, if I tell you the full explanation, I'd have to reveal secrets that aren't mine in the first place. So..." I said, scanning his face again. In my head, I randomly thought, is this really an extra and not the male lead? It doesn't look like it. but, that aside, was he buying it…?
"...Fine. I accept." Levi said slowly, and I, completely forgetting that we were sitting on a trash heap, tackled him in a hug. "Yes! My savior! Thank you!!"
"I should be saying that to you," Levi said softly, and I shook my head. Nope, you were going to become a swordmaster either way, I just gave you a shortcut. But I couldn't say that. Suddenly, the owner of the shop burst through the door, and Levi flinched, instantly sneaking behind me. "Just on time! Can I have some cheddar popcorn? And do you have caramel popcorn too?" I asked, taking out a gold coin to flash it at the owner. Surely I was rich enough to spare some coins now.
