Her best friend to boyfriend

It all started when Ellen was in 5th grade.

"MAN its a nice and warm day for the first day of school!"

Ellen gets ready for the first day of school going into 5th grade, she's nervous even though she's done this a million times. She brushes her hair and teeth, puts on her sneakers and new clothes that still smell like the store.

"why am I getting nervous? I wonder if there will be a new student this year? What if it's

a boy and if he's hot!? Actually I need to get going to the bus!"

Ellen walks down to the bus with her mother, her brother already left for high school earlier.

"Mom I'm really nervous..will they recognize me after I get glasses and cut my hair?"

"There's no need to be worried and I bet they will recognize you"

When her mother is done talking she notices the bus pulling over the hill, she can feel her heart drop and start racing. Ellen breaths in and smells the summer air then breathes out.

"I'm ready..I think?"

When the bus comes to a stop she runs up the hill and waits for her bus driver to give her the go ahead. She crosses and when she gets on the bus she asks the bus driver where she sits.

"One seat back farther than last year"

She walks down the isle and sits down with her best friend Ashly.

"Hi Ashly how was your summer?

"Good what about you?"

"Good!"

They both sit in a comfortable silence on the way to the school

When they get to school they go to the cafeteria to have an assembly to introduce the new kids to the school.

"I'm bored"

Ellen sits on the bleachers waiting for it to be over so she can go to her new classroom.

After at least 10mins..

Everyone walks to their classes to get to know each other

Ellen sees all her former classmates in the same class as last year, since it's a tiny school. But there's one thing that stood out...a new student. Ellen's friends Ashly and Emily go talk to him with some of the boys in the class.

That first day Ellen didn't talk to the new student, one particular reason is that she's shy and doesn't know his name but he seems very friendly.

The next day

When Ellen gets to school she doesn't talk to the boy again but she is interested in him because of his personality and because he has the same dark brown skin as her.

Over the first week she makes a tiny bit of conversation with him, she learns his name. His name is Alex

One day the whole class is working on a project and he says

"Hey Ellen!"

It made her surprised that he knew her name because he had never said it before so it made her happy!

After a few day they became closer but they still didn't speak a lot. Ellen wanted to but was still too nervous.

She could see that Ashly liked him and would ask her about it but she would deny it. Ellen and her friends would tease her about it. It went on like this for a while. Ashly and Emily were way closer to him then Ellen.

After a while Ellen and Alex got along more then they did before, she was very happy to make a new friend.

Over the course of the year almost everyday Ellen's teacher would be a jerk to all the students yelling at them when she didn't need to, making jokes about people smoking and where other people work, it was horrible. One day the teacher was rude to everyone so later that day Ellen decided to make a joke about her while looking at Ashly, the teachers butt was facing to Ellen so she pretended to kick it. After a few minutes the teacher asked if Ashly could go out in the hallway, when she came back in Ellen asked,

"Ashly what happened? why were you called into the hallway?"

"Basically the teacher accused me of something I didn't do and said I should treat her with respect"

Then the teacher called her to the hallway...
