82. Happy’s Godly Cure

Burundi was a nation with rolling hills, mountains, and valleys. It was a landlocked country in East Africa, bordered by Rwanda, Tanzania, and DRC. Adorned with lush greenery, terraced hillsides, forests, and numerous lakes and rivers, the country was quite beautiful. Unfortunately, it ranked among the world's most corrupt nations, residing near the top of the list.

With its nickel and cobalt reserves, the country fell victim to extensive corruption within the government, army, and police—every part of the country's administration was tainted by corruption, solely focused on getting rich. Child labor and death in mines were as common as an official taking bribes in the nation.

And in that chaos, a private plane landed, carrying Rambo. He got to work right away, appearing in the nation as a big investor and buyer. That allowed him easy access to inspect all the mining sites and also meet the relevant people who were involved in the condition of the country.

However, even before Rambo's arrival, Lord Greengrass had already begun his work in the nation, gathering evidence from places Rambo couldn't enter, such as offices and hidden vaults.

All the dollars and gold that were kept secret by any significant figure in the country were quickly found out.

Once done, he just needed to pass on the information to Rambo, and his mission would be done. But before he did that, he had to find the muggle man. One thing led to another, and by the end of their mission, the two had to escape from the country using Greengrass' apparition, as the rumors of them being spies quickly spread.

But their work was done, and they had gotten all the information they needed. They knew exactly how those people made their money and where they hid it.

It was time for Rambo to report to Happy and for Lord Greengrass to ask for his daughter's cure.

While Happy's gift came out of nowhere and even reached all the professors of the school, one each, classes went on as normal. Much had happened, from two Order of Merlin medals being granted to a quidditch accident.

Happy made sure to check if Harry was learning the Patronus charm or not. To his surprise, Harry had brought Ron with him as well, and now both of them were learning the charm. It was a deviation from what Happy knew, but he liked it.

It was better if Ron had focused more on magic too. Just being brave wouldn't always help them. As for Hermione, she continued her hectic schedule of classes but often found time to sit with Happy and discuss her day or some subjects. Since Happy possessed extensive knowledge of magical history due to reading all the information, it was easy for them to get along.

However, by then, Happy's focus had shifted to Slytherin. He focused on Draco, pulling him closer to his side ever so slowly. It wasn't that hard either since Draco admired Happy at that point.

"See, this is a statistical formula that the muggles made. It helps you calculate the average and many more details about the revenue generated from the shops." Happy sat with Draco in an empty classroom and helped him learn how to manage the hundreds of Anytime Stores that Happy had established in magical markets worldwide.

The blonde boy wrote everything down diligently, wanting to prove himself to his father by earning big. "How did the muggles make this?"

Happy chuckled. "Buddy, come with me to the muggle side of the world this winter. I'll show you the wonders they've created. They don't have magic, so they find other ways to do things using their minds and new technologies. For example, we wizards don't need to wash our clothes and dishes because we have elves and magic. Muggles created machines that can do the same—called a washing machine and a dishwasher. Us wizards can use brooms and some apparate, so muggles made flying machines.

"Us wizards can shoot life-threatening magic from our wands, so the muggles made guns, grenades, and missiles. But unfortunately, the magical world has reached a standstill because of the incessant infighting, thanks to two Dark Lords back to back—first came Grindelwald and then You-Know-Who."

Draco nodded his head in agreement. "But he's back, isn't he?"

"Not yet." Happy replied. "Remember, it's us pureblood wizards and families that gave the Dark Lord the power to act as he pleases. Tell me what would happen to the so-called Dark Lord if all the pureblood families came and said, 'we won't follow you, so please just die under our wands.' Do you think a Dark Lord would be able to fight against a hundred adult wizards?"

"..."

"T-That… makes sense." Draco finally began to understand the concept of scale and numbers.

"Anyway, you're doing good. Just keep updating the ledger, and I'll soon move you onto some more exciting work." Happy threw out the bait and got up to leave. "It's time I grab some snacks. See you later, buddy."

With admiration-filled eyes, Draco watched Happy leave. Indeed, following Happy was the right decision.

But it wasn't just him. His father also thought the same, albeit not wholeheartedly.

Happy received a letter from Lord Greengrass, informing him that he had returned and the task was completed. However, Happy knew about it from Chris already, as Rambo reported everything first, including the investigations he had done.

But the deal was a deal, and Happy had to take action. So, on the night of the seventeenth of December, just two days before the end of the term, Happy wore his nice robes and made his way out of the school using teleportation. But this time, he wasn't going alone.

"Professor, please follow me," Happy told Snape, his loyal Potions teacher. The man had transformed for the better ever since he received the award. He now snarled less and carried himself in a more dignified manner. Heck, he didn't even call Hermione miss-know-it-all after she interrupted the werewolf class.

"Lestrange, are you sure you can travel across the Atlantic?" Snape asked because even powerful wizards couldn't do it.

Happy showed his thumb, "Don't worry, Professor, I've done this before. Let's go now… Koko, yep, yep."

"Mooo…!" Koko jumped and settled on his shoulder.

Woosh!

"Here I go!" Happy began walking swiftly and, in an instant, disappeared into a gleaming portal. Snape was right behind him, holding Happy's shoulder so he didn't get thrown off somewhere in between.

Woosh!

As if they had simply stepped through a door, they soon found themselves in a room not their own. The scent of various potions and ingredients was in the air, making Snape wonder where they were.

"This is my small potions lab in the United States, Professor." Happy said and clapped his hands, instantly turning up all the lights. "Lord Greengrass should be outside."

Happy moved quickly and opened the door to the warehouse in some secluded place in New York City. It was only Lord Greengrass on the other side, warily looking all around, worrying that it may be a trap.

"Welcome, Lord Greengrass, come in. I'll get to making the cure once the vow is made." Happy welcomed him, and reminded him of the second part of the agreement.

"Show me the proof that you can do it first," Greengrass argued.

Happy gestured towards Snape. "Isn't he proof enough? This is Professor Snape, a master potioneer. The choice is yours, Lord Greengrass. You can either agree and get the cure or reject and go home."

"What are the vows?" Lord Greengrass asked straightforwardly.

"A vow of secrecy, to not harm me, and to work for me with honesty, integrity, and diligence for five years—you will be paid, of course." Happy clarified. "I don't want your life or anything like that, Lord Greengrass. Consider this a business deal instead."

Greengrass weighed his options. He had already gone to Africa and completed his task. To some extent, he understood what Happy was trying to do. At least it wasn't something sinister, and Happy wasn't a supporter of the Dark Lord.

"What are the penalties for you?"

Happy shrugged, "If I'm unable to make the potion, I'll pay you a hundred million gold galleons."

"..."

Greengrass' jaw dropped, and he felt inclined to take the deal. Even if Happy failed, it was a huge profit for him.

"Very well then."

'Got you.'

With that, Happy clasped hands with Lord Greengrass, and Severus Snape stood as the witness and the initiator of the magic. The strings of magic soon weaved around Happy and Lord Greengrass' hands, and the vows were accepted. Finally, Happy earned his first magic user agent. He imagined that life would greatly improve with this assistance.

"Now, for the cure." Happy said and walked over to the potions workbench. It had a plethora of vials and flasks filled with various things. Numerous raw materials and living insects were also there.

"Do you understand what you are planning to do?" Severus Snape asked.

Happy felt the sweat on his forehead. "Of course… I know. Just keep an eye on everything I do and help me write down everything on paper, Professor. This way, we can see if there are any theoretical issues later."

Snape didn't argue much, wanting to see Happy perform the miracle as well. How was he going to cure something incurable? Snape was very interested.

Soon, the two men stared at Happy, observing his hands as the flask was placed on the burner.

'Fuck!'

Happy inwardly cursed while looking at the ingredients. He had only read a little about herbology and medical magic, after all.

'Grandpa God, help your lucky son!'

With a final prayer, he started to move, pouring things into the cauldron or cutting something, crushing something—it felt too random, yet no one voiced any objections.

Will he succeed, or will he fail? Only time would tell.
