Harem Overlord: Galactic Mechanic Of The Apocalypse

The world is no longer in one piece; aliens roam the Earth as of 13th December 3001. The apocalypse had changed everything since the arrival of the aliens.

They didn't seek a truce or anything. They didn't want the planet. All they wanted was to see the Earth turned to dust.

The government fought hard against this crisis, but how long could tanks and bullets hold them off? They were merely nothing but fireworks to them.

Having no choice, the president ordered an immediate evacuation to find a new planet among the stars.

Of course, not everyone on Earth could occupy the warship stolen from the enemies. So, the rule that turned humans against themselves was brought forth.

Only those who were awakened were allowed in this new search, in the new Eden, because the galaxy wasn't a child's playground.

And those who didn't awaken any powers? They would meet their demise on Earth. But, having found the rule to be poorly received, the government introduced something else: buying tickets to enter the warship, the new Eden. A total of nine Edens, massive warships capable of housing millions—and even containing houses within them—were created.

"C'mon! I'm sure I fucking awakened just now," a black-haired male cursed, black circles visible underneath his eyes from not getting a good sleep for the last three weeks.

Trent was in his basement. On top of his worktable was an alien weapon, dim light hovering above his head.

"That blue screen thing... That couldn't have been me seeing things. I'm sure I awakened something," he muttered, squeezing the screwdriver he held.

He was among the hundreds of people hoping they could still awaken. Because he was poor, awakening was his only breakthrough for survival.

[Announcement to all remaining humans on planet 23BDA4 (Earth): The last Eden ship will be arriving at 9:00 PM. Those desiring to enter the new Eden must either be awakened or have 10,000 Eden currency—approximately 10 million dollars. Thank you.]

The radio at the window announced.

Trent squeezed his worktable hard and furiously tossed it upside down, scattering the alien weapon and other items on top of it.

"Fuck!" yelled Trent in anger, throwing the screwdriver out the window. "I'm going to die in this shithole," he muttered.

After losing everything to the apocalypse, he had been surviving it since the age of ten. He cried for not being an awakened.

He couldn't shoot fireballs out of his palm or destroy ships with a single fist.

After several minutes of sobbing, he stood up and walked out of his basement. Maybe some fresh air would reset him. He sat on the rooftop, looking at the stars.

The unique talent he had was repairing broken stuff—a mechanic. Apart from wanting to see the new Eden, he also wanted to work on those warrior mechas he'd seen a couple of times when Eden ships arrived to pick up new awakeners.

"Moe you has mother ucker," yelled an alien. The accent was too familiar.

Beneath him, a squid-faced alien shoved a prisoner. Another thing here was, once the aliens noticed you'd awakened, you became their prisoner.

The man was trembling, knowing an alien was pointing an atom gun at him from behind. After darting his eyes around in fear, he made a run for it.

"Hehehe... Foolis umane."

Trent watched the squid alien press the weapon. The engine created a loud zooming sound, and then boom, a purple translucent ball shot out.

Immediately it connected with the man, his body disappeared, leaving white, falling particles—falling atom pebbles.

That was the type of weapon Trent was trying to repair, along with many other surprises tied to the atom gun.

The squid-faced alien was about to leave but noticed Trent. He didn't move. Trent just covered his face with his hood.

The alien proceeded to bring out a bee-like device. From beneath Trent, the bee device floated to his position and holographic scans began scanning him. Trent knew this thing too well.

This was how they detected awakeners. If the blue scan turned red, you were dead—a confirmed awakened. But confirming Trent wasn't one, the device didn't change. The squid-face cursed and left the area with the bee device floating behind him.

"So, I was really imagining things. I haven't awakened a thing," Trent sighed. Enough star gazing.

The only thing worth looking were the stars, because in all truth, nothing was on earth anymore, only sights of ruined cracked buildings, like his.

He made his way back to the basement, picked up the table and his items, and also the heavy alien gun.

It wasn't bigger than his arm, but it was a million times heavier.

"So, since I haven't awakened, repairing this atom gun is my only chance," Trent said, taking his red toolbox beside him and rotating the screwdriver.

"Time to work," he muttered, loosening the screws and encountering complex wires.

Out of the blue, a translucent blue screen appeared in his view—something he had seen before. He sighed and smiled.

"I cannot believe I'm seeing things again," said Trent as he ignored the blue screen. "I've imagined you before; you're not fucking real."

Trent looked at the blue screen and laughed at himself for having such vivid imaginations.

"I'm really something else when it comes to imagining things. Better get this shit repaired than waste time on my illusions."

Trent ignored the screen and carried on with his repair. However, brrzzz—"Fuck!"—the wires shocked him, and the blue screen appeared again.

"Fine, yes... Stupid thing. Not like it's fucking real anyway," Trent cursed. As he picked up the tool, he fell. Standing back up, he saw a red holographic shield covering the atom gun.

"What the hell?" he muttered, trying to reach out for the gun, but a notification stopped him.

Trent couldn't claim he was imagining things this time, as the atom gun sparked with electricity, as if an invisible mechanic was working on it.

Trent stared wordlessly in awe as he observed the blue screen displaying the image of the repaired atom gun and its stats.

"This is no imagination... I... I awakened," he muttered, looking at the gun.

"I awakened!" yelled Trent with a jubilant expression. He picked up the gun and boom—shot his wall, creating a thunderous explosion with shattered pieces of rock.

But it didn't matter, he was excited of been an awakened and now he couldn't wait for the new Eden recruit ship to arrive.

Kaboom-

Then another explosion was heard, accompanied by a well-too-familiar engine sound—it was one of the New Eden warships.

"The recruiters are here. Fuck... I gotta tell them I'm an awakened!"

Trent quickly ran outside through the damaged wall as his exit, only to reach his backyard. He saw something massive—if not the most massive warship he had ever seen.

"Alien ship."
