A vampire's love

I closed my eyes as his lips met mine, the kiss a slow feathery touch at first. My breath hitched as he parted my lips slowly, his face closer than it was before, his arms wrapping around my waist as he pulled me to him. I could taste the saltiness of his tears, and it somehow made me feel guilty. It felt like I was driving him over the edge with my refusal to accept him for who he happened to be. He pulled away, his eyes still closed.

"I'm sorry." He said, a tear rolling down from his left eye in earnest. A pang of guilt tore through my chest, and I couldn't fight the urge to wipe his tears away. Just as I lifted my hands towards him, though, he moved away, his face regaining the cold expression.

"I meant it."

I dropped my hand to my side a bit disappointed, yet largely confused. "You meant what?"

"I will be the only one you see. For anything and everything. I should be the one you call. If needed, I will stand guard in ffrontof your room, waiting on your every command, but no man, human or vampire, will ever come near you." He said it all in one breath and I felt like a wild animal. Or some document to a real estate investment.

"So much insecurity for a king." I scoffed. The only trace of the warm feelings the kiss had brought, was the tingle on my lips and the butterflies in my stomach.

"Maybe I am insecure, I am not sure. What I am sure of, Is that I will be the only person you see, and that's that." He brushed past me to the door.

"How long wil he be there for?"

He turned back to me and shrugged. "Two months."

"Two months? You are good with keeping an innocent man in the dungeon for two months?"

"Yes." He answered simply amd turned the door knob.

"Its all my fault."

"Don't blame yourself for it. He will be well tended to in the dungeon, because I don't want you worried. He just won't have the freedom to roam about, because unfortunately, I have decided you and him cannot coexist in the same place at the same time. This Kingdom isn't big enough for both of you. Come down for lunch." I heard him open the door and walk out, before the door opened again, and he came back in.

"What do you want now? There is no one in my room."

"Glad to see you're warming up to the idea of this being your room, Sammy. I hope one day, you'll love the idea of being here, and even look forward to spending more time."

"You've always been ambitious."

"And i'll remain so. That's probably why I came back to ask you to take a long romantic walk with me in the evening. When the sun is cool, and the weather nice." He extended his hand to me, but instead of taking it, I pushed him out of the room amd closed the door.

"Please?" I heard him say from behind the door.

"I'll see what I can do." I answered, wondering why I didn't just reject him.

"Thank you, Samantha," he said. "I'll drop by with a dress."
