Chapter 1(I) Origins

The moon shone high above the skies, scattered with dark clouds, brightly illuminating the verdant rolling hillscape. Hundreds of tall emerald Oaks, Maples, and Pine Trees adorned the hills, creating a thick and luscious forest.

Smoke rose into the skies from amongst the trees, billowing as it came from a small cottage in a tiny clearing in the forest. It was a minimalistic one-room cottage with an equally little kitchenette and a small table with two chairs. Intense flames roared from the chimney in front of an oversized chair; an elderly woman sat on the edge of a bed.

She tucked in a young boy with shaggy, sandy hair and bright green eyes before grabbing a sizeable worn book from the nightstand beside the bed and ruffled the hair, covering his forehead with a warm smile.

"One chapter! That's it! We have an early day tomorrow, Jackson!" She said sternly as she wagged her finger at his face; he giggled and pulled the blanket over his mouth.

"Okay, Grandma!" Jackson replied innocently as she opened the worn and tattered binding of the large book.

"Long ago, many years before you or I were born, our entire world was covered by humans. They lived on every inch of the ground and ruled over everything on Terra. However..." The elderly woman read as Jackson turned his head and stared out the window toward the bright moon.

***

The skies turned a bright red as the clouds burst apart and disappeared. The trees exploded, sending flaming thatch and splinters everywhere, creating a raging inferno across Terra. Lava began erupting beneath the planet's crust, bursting from volcanoes and cracks underneath the oceans. The oceans started boiling as the mountaintops were split apart, and earthquakes ravaged the continents.

Humongous towers began floating down to equally gigantic metropolis cities throughout Terra. The structures casually descended until they floated a few hundred meters above the ground creating massive gusts throughout the skyscrapers.

Immediately each of the towers opened a massive panel on each face, and luminescent staircases began unfolding out and down to the ground destroying the buildings underneath as they expanded out and connected to each other, creating a starkly beautiful image amongst the destruction of the cities.

A neverending sea of beasts emerged from the towers and began charging down the brightly lit red stairs. Giant wolves with dark fur, large fangs, and claws ran alongside giant rats and massive insects that crawled along the ground beneath their rampaging feet.

Panic set in an instant as everyone began trampling over each other as they attempted to flee from the towers. Local authorities tried to cull the beasts but were overrun in moments. Chaos ensued everywhere as people hid and barred themselves but to no avail.

Militaries sprung into high alert and were dispatched, but even with the increased firepower of their armored and air divisions, more giant and stronger monsters emerged from the tower and were quickly able to defeat the armies that were protecting humanity.

The world leaders were cut off from the public, and roughly half of humanity was eradicated from Terra in the brink of a few hours.

A Young man with long, flowing golden hair and glowing blue eyes appeared in one of the cities, and with a single wave of his hand, a light obliterated more than one hundred of the beasts in front of him. He wore gold and silver medieval plate armor covering his entire body from his neck down and a long, bright crimson red cape.

The bloodthirsty beasts charged at him from all directions. Each step he took unleashed a powerful burst, sending shockwaves, knocking them away as he flicked his wrists, disintegrating anything hit by the bursts of energy flung from his hands.

Lucky survivors watched in awe, cowering behind the rubble of destroyed buildings as their mysterious savior singlehandedly pushed back the monsters.

Similar events were happening across Terra as more men who looked identical to him were accomplishing identical victories and killing every beast that spilled out continuously. All twenty-one young men began climbing the steps to the towers and vanished into them, sealing shut behind them.

Saviors who rescued everyone without so much as uttering a single word. These men vanished as quickly as they appeared. The remnants of humanity grew bold once the monsters disappeared and approached the towers cautiously.

Civilization was crippled and brought to its knees within mere hours by the emergence of the towers. People from the countryside began to flee the devastation brought by the planet to the cities and slowly began to rebuild.

Lawlessness and anarchy replaced the peaceful lives everyone once knew as gangs emerged and began to extort, kidnap, and murder anyone they pleased. The law of the jungle became the only law that mattered.

Survival of the Fittest! For two decades, humanity grew archaic, forgetting the advancements and technology through brutality and malnourishment. The strong eat the weak, and the weak can't do anything about it, yet everything changed when the doors opened again. The only difference was the stairs were glowing blue and not red any longer.

Civilization had settled next to the towers, and panic had ensued as everyone immediately rushed away, far, hiding amongst the moss-covered rubble of buildings long destroyed. The humans cautiously waited for days before finally approaching the towers.

Upon reaching the top of the staircase, from within the pitch blackness of the tower's opening, a swirling purple portal formed with white streaks circulating within the purple mass.

Prisoners of war were the first to be forced through the portals by the warlords who ruled the destroyed cities. They had sent slave after slave through the doorway, and none ever returned.

After a week of losing dozens of slaves, the warlords snapped and sent one of their own men through the portal. Once again, none ever returned. They quickly dismissed the outlets and ignored the towers again until a miracle happened...

The portal changed to a bright blue, and one of the slaves stepped through wearing leather armor. One after another, more stepped out wearing various clothing and armor, each wielding odd weapons.

Standing atop the peak of the stairs, one person stepped forward and recited a well-rehearsed speech, "Surrender peacefully and release any person enslaved immediately or face the consequences!"

Authors Note: I have always been fascinated by writing fantasy relating to historical facts. In this story, you will find characters inspired by real-world myth and legend. The universe I created hopefully will make the reader's imagination excited and logically plausible. I hope you enjoy it. ### Here are some key aspects you'll encounter: MC: The protagonist follows the classic weak-to-strong arc. World: Picture a blend of Harry Potter and Star Wars. System: While it's primarily a magic-based story, there's a structured system in place that's easy to follow. Additionally, elements of cultivation. Harem: No, there are several female interests. But I enjoy romance first. So even if there will be more than one love interest it will be deep. Note: English is not my first language, but you'll notice that my writing and English skills gradually improve throughout the chapters. Other: The novel delves into deep research on science and history, enriching the storyline with factual and intriguing details. Give it a read—you might be pleasantly surprised by what unfolds. Ok, let's begin with starting that this novel description in detail is unreal. If I have to compare this novel descriptive ability, then it's on par with "Lord of the Mysteries". Everything was explained in precise detail and so was the action that allows you to have imagery of what the scene was like. Writing Quality- 5/5, As I've said, this novel's grammar is above-average and could be on par with some of the top novels. There wasn't a paragraph or sentence that I read have some problems with it. Not to mention, the author is capable of using some high vocabulary words and it amazed me. Stability of Updates- This is a more straightforward point and it's 5/5. The novel is updated every day, so unless the author decides to take a hiatus, the rating shall remain at 5. Story Development- 5/5, I know people might think I'm just bootlicking the author, but no. Why I give this a 5/5 because of the detailed prelude of the first volume that gives us the background that we need to understand what is going on and what the novel is about. Not to mention, the author was able to create a character, namely, the grandma, and gave us a realistic feel of her character being real. It didn't even take me a few minutes before I was immersed in the storyline and connected to the character. Note: once you finish the prelude, then you will understand what I mean. I can't give many spoilers because it'll ruin the fun for you. Character Design- 4/5, Although the main character, Jackson and his grandma was well created and managed to immerse me, there were simply too many characters introduced in the latter part. It was overwhelming at times that I don't even remember who's who and what was her role again in the story. It just kind of feel a bit lackluster since we didn't receive as much detail and background of the character compared to the Main Character and his grandma. Hopefully, in the latter chapters, the author can continue to introduce the character slowly and let the reader have a breather to get to know the character well before storming off to another introduction. World Background- 5/5, The world is described beautifully in the prelude and already gave a glimpse of what the world had become and how it's beginning to operate. I especially love the part where the author spends a lot of attention in detail regarding how humans have lost their advanced technology and kind of regressed to medieval kind of times. And a bonus point is added for the clever usage of Warlord which is similar to history where Warlords abused their power and take control of lands. TLDR: Overall, the novel is definitely at the top percentile with its well-constructed story and detailed explanation of actions from the main character, Jackson or Jax. On top of that, there are little to zero grammatical mistakes and you can read smoothly. Though, if you are the type to not enjoy novels such as "Lord of the Mysteries", then the attention to detail might bore you. This novel takes the slow pace road and doesn't rush things which is great. This was reviewed by a Doraemon on December 14, 2022

There are spoilers in this review please read with caution :) Based on the 10 chapters of the novel that I have read, it is clear that the world building is well thought out and immersive. The setting of the story, Duskgate, is a city surrounded by stone walls that is built on top of an ancient tower known as God's Tower. The existence of these towers, which can be found throughout the world, has had a profound impact on society and has led to the formation of organizations like The Climber's Association, which is focused on ascending the towers. The characters in the novel are also well-developed and dynamic. Jackson, the protagonist, is a strong and determined individual who has faced numerous challenges throughout his life, including the disappearance of his father and the death of his grandmother. Despite these tragedies, he remains determined to uncover the truth and find his place in the world. One aspect that could have been improved upon in the novel is the pacing. At times, the story feels slow and dragged out, particularly in the earlier chapters. However, the action and tension pick up significantly as the story progresses, making for a more engaging and thrilling read. Again this is my opinion based on the 10th chapter. Overall, the world building and characters in the novel are well-crafted and provide a solid foundation for the story. Some tightening up of the pacing would have made for a more cohesive and enjoyable reading experience. One quote from the novel that particularly stands out is when Jackson's father writes in his diary, "You will find all the answers at the top of God's Tower." The mystery surrounding Jackson's father is an interesting and intriguing aspect of the story. It is clear that his father has been absent for much of Jackson's life, but there are hints that he may still be alive and that there are forces preventing him from returning home. The mention of God's Tower and the clues left behind in his father's diary suggest that there may be a deeper mystery at play, possibly involving the towers and the forces that control them. This adds a layer of mystery and intrigue to the story and leaves readers wanting to know more. Characteristics of Jackson in my perspective: Jackson seems to be a determined and resilient individual who has faced a lot of hardship in his life. He has lost his father and grandmother and has been forced to live in an orphanage, where he has been subjected to physical labor and dangerous tasks. Despite these challenges, he remains determined to find his missing grandmother and uncover the truth about his father's disappearance. He is also described as being physically fit and skilled in martial arts, as he is shown practicing with wooden sticks in the courtyard. Additionally, he seems to be kind and empathetic, as he is concerned about the well-being of his fellow orphans and is willing to help them in any way he can. Overall, Jackson seems to be a strong and resourceful character who is not afraid to face adversity and is driven to uncover the truth.
