Ch. 112

*Clang!*

"Did you think killing me would be easy?" The Pope's face suddenly grinned while the woman who was whipping him earlier faded into air like nothing.

"Illusion?" Akeno's eyes widened as she was about to back away when a hand reached out and grabbed her in her neck.

"Where do you think you're going? We're not done yet." The Pope said as he tightened the grip on her neck, making her slowly lose conscious.

*Ziii*

Akeno's eyes got covered in lightning, and in a desperate attempt, she released bolts of lightnings everywhere around her, damaging the surroundings while forcing the Pope to release her and defend himself.

As soon as Akeno landed on the ground, she knew that killing the Pope silently is thrown out of the window as the guards outside most likely heard the commotion and are probably on their way here now.

"That hurts, little gi-" He didn't managed to finish his sentence when Akeno's outstretched hand came rushing to his throat, surprising him.

"Fuck." The Pope cursed as he dodged the lightning covered hand before a magic circle appeared on his palm.

"I'll kill you!" The Pope said as a snake like dragon made of fire came out of the circle and rushed towards her.

Luckily, Akeno has the sling ring on her fingers, so she immediately conjured a portal in front of the incoming fire before conjuring the exit behind the Pope's unsuspecting back.

*Bam!*

The Pope was thrown forward and stumbled a few times before stumbling for the last time in front of Akeno.

"Looks like killing you is easy." Akeno mocked however, seeing the grin plastered on the Pope's face made her feel uneasy.

"The Khaos Brigade knew that I'll be targeted somehow, so they prepared a last surprise. I told you killing me wouldn't be easy." As soon as he said that, the whole church lit up in countless runes, and the same can be said inside the room.

Akeno knew that something bad is gonna happen, so she didn't hesitate to conjure a portal and was about to jump on when she heard the Pope say.

"Are you really gonna leave the innocent kids trapped in the basement?" The Pope said.

Akeno's eyes widened and knew that she has to save those innocent kids somehow.

Before the runes exploded, the whole world slows down in time, except for Akeno who was covered in lightning from head to toe.

She immediately get into work.

She first dashed and searched through the rooms that she saw, some of them are just some normal room or some storage rooms.

When Akeno looked back, she saw that the explosion is catching up to her, so she has to hurry up and save those kids.

After 1 minute in her time perception, she finally found the door leading to he basement, so she didn't hesitate to kick it open and went inside.

Once inside, she saw some animal cages but inside the cages weren't animals. Instead, some kids and babies were trapped inside, crying for help.

She saw atleast hundreds of kids and babies making her job much more harder. She also can't conjure a portal as it would take a second to conjure one in real time.

So she has to think of a plan to get the hundreds of kids out of the church safely.

After looking around for a few seconds in her perception, she finally found two huge containers that contains guns and explosives, who knew that a church would have this kind of items inside a church. Well, considering that the Pope himself is a bad guy, then this weapons must his doing.

She first took out the weapons and threw them in a corner. She could already feel her mana almost depleting, so she has to finish this fast.

As soon as the containers was cleared of weapons, it was finally time to place the kids inside of it. So she destroyed their cages and carefully placed them inside the container.

Akeno could already feel the heat of the explosion as she could see that the fires and explosions were already inside the basement.

She doubled her efforts and finally placed all the kids inside the 2 containers.

The heat was already licking her skin, so she looked around and saw no way out because the containers are huge and the entrance to the basement was a no go.

So she has to make her own exit.

But even if she destroys the walls, she is in an underground basement so the walls are a no go, and also the ceiling since it leads inside the church which is exactly where the explosions is going off.

This means that she can't exit the basement, which leaves her to one choice.

Bury.

She needs to dig underground huge enough to fit the containers, and bury the containers for a few seconds just until the explosions were done.

However, this leads to another problem, Air. The kids won't be able to breathe underground especially since they're inside the containers.

"What am I gonna do?" Akeno paced around the parts of the basement where the explosion hasn't reach yet.

"Need help?" She then heard a voice behind her and when she saw her master, Xyrus standing there, she sighed in relief.

"Mast-!" She didn't managed to finish her sentence when her mana was finally depleted and she fell forward, unconscious.

Xyrus catched her and waved his hand, the containers disappeared in a flash.

"Don't worry, I'll take it from here." Xyrus whispered before finally leaving the church.

*BOOOM!*

As soon as Xyrus left, the church finally finished its explosion, and it alarmed the nearby passerby's

This has alerted the exorcists and magicians, but when they arrived at the scene, they were met with nothing but ashes.

Meanwhile, back in the Sanctum. Akeno was once again in a coma in the medic hall.

"This is her 3rd time here this year." The Sorcerer in charge of medicines and healing, complained slightly.

"Well, considering that not only she killed an Ultimate class being with ease, but she also saved hundreds of kids who were about to face death." Xyrus explained while the Sorcerer looked at Akeno in amazement.

"Is she gonna be the next...?" He then looked at Xyrus in question.

Xyrus nodded while the Sorcerer opened his mouth in understanding.

"I'll be going now. Take care of her." The Sorcerer nodded his head while Xyrus disappeared.

It's time to open the Tome of the Chosen One.
