Chapter 83

Ari and Vickie ordered pizza again that night. She thought that hearing Grayson’s voice would cheer her up, but the only thing it did was make her more depressed. She and Vickie were sitting on the sofa, eating pizza off paper plates, as if nothing had changed and they were still in college. When she was with Vickie, Ari could always be herself... no matter what.

“I’m telling you, you need to go with me tonight!” Vickie begged. “It’s New Year’s Eve and I’m not leaving you here alone!” Vickie was literally jumping on the couch now.

“Ugg!” Ari moaned. “Stop it! You’re going to make me dump my pizza! And a big pizza stain would look real lovely on this beige sofa.”

Vickie shrugged. “Couldn’t hurt it. It’s probably scotch guarded anyway.”

Ari rolled her eyes.

“I’m telling you, girl! This party will be rockin’! And if you miss it, you’ll regret it forever.” Vickie watched her and then gave her the puppy-dog pout, complete with the huge eyes and turned down bottom lip.
