"Are you not going to tonight's burnfire?" She asked me just as I reached the arched entrance of the stables causing me to pause for a second. A memory from my sixth summer flooded my thoughts triggering something I had forgotten.
That was my last summer here and one of the clearest of my early memories. We spent the summer at the ranch taking care of the horses going camping and hiking along the trails. Grandpa Jack would host a campfire every day for the family and sometimes some of the guests staying in the cabins on the land would join.
Remembering this my eyes subconsciously watered up but I quickly shook off the memories. "Please tell Jack I'll join you guys tomorrow, I'm really tired," I told her with a much more genuine tone as I started to remember my summers here. Jessica used to follow me everywhere practically like we were brother and sister.
However, after leaving this place I never looked back letting my anger cloud my thoughts. Although it helped me become an amazing player for my age it also caused me to make a lot of mistakes. Gues you become quite selfish when you are always angry.
"Oh ok," She replied with a surprised tone after noticing my change in expression and ton. "Goodnight Jess," I told her with a smile before returning around entering the stables and heading for the stairs leading to the second floor. I didn't notice the surprised yet happy smile that appeared on her face after hearing me call her Jess.
Due to our young age, we found it cumbersome to use our full names opting instead to use nicknames. Well, actually it was due to the fact she always mispronounced my name and called me Hakum. At first, I thought she was trying to pick on me but after having her follow me for days we eventually became friends.
She was just too cute to stay mad at for too long especially when she would copy everything I did. Safe to say I had the best fall guy whenever we got into trouble because once grownups saw her puppy dog eyes water we were free and clear. She could cry on command managing to get us out of trouble or free ice creams.

Entering the door at the end of the flight of stairs a spacious living room met my eyes. There was a kitchen at one end of the room separated by a granite kitchen island acting as a table. Two meters further there was a spacious living room with a comfortable-looking crescent moon-shaped couch.
Your usual appliances like a TV, speakers small coffee table and other decorations were placed throughout the room. The apartment had two bedrooms and one common bathroom equipped with a bathtub and shower. Going into the slightly smaller of the two rooms I checked out my new room.
My Boxes from the moving company were placed neatly at the sides of the room. The movers were nice enough even to place the ones labelled as clothes in the small walk-in closet. Grabbing a vest, joggers and a pair of sliders I headed for the bathroom. I stopped by Mum's room and picked up my toiletries before showering.
Donning my shower cap to protect my dreads I turned on the cold water. Letting it wash me down my elevated heart rate calmed down cooling my body heat. It took me a second to steady myself but after that, I was fine getting comfortable with the temperature. Quickly going through the motion I finished my shower in under 20 minutes.
This is record time because I'm the type to spend at least 30 minutes in the shower. This is especially the case whenever I listen to a good Spotify album. Quickly drying myself off with a towel, I went on to apply my shea skin lotion to moisturise.
Taking my skincare routine much more seriously I didn't rush the process especially when going through my facial routine. Following that I continued to apply the pomade to my hair following the instructions from my hairdresser's instruction. Wanting to make sure that my dreads remained healthy I followed her instruction to a T.
Once done I threw my sweaty clothes into the designated basket and headed for my room. Plugging my phone at the side of my double bed I slumped onto the bed and closed my eyes for a second. Opening my eyes the next second I turned on my phone pulling up Insta to check out my account.
My account is called H-KLyon created back when I was 12 with only a little over 200 hundred followers. Looking through my random posts of cartoons and fields I promptly deleted them. Some were just of me and my old friends acting goofy throughout the years. By the time I was done, I only kept 3 pictures and a video.
The pictures consisted of me and mum when I was much younger and the other two of me and some friends playing basketball. The only video I kept up is one of my 9th birthday where my friends and I acted like fools. We were dancing to songs and there were pictures of us eating cake. Those were some of the few happy memories I wanted to hold on to and share with the world.
Once I was done I opened my DM's and started chatting with the guys I met at the pickup. Both Big Mike and CJ were rather talkative with the big man spamming the group chat nonstop. Whenever he's bored the chat gets flooded with random things like memes or simply him complaining about something.
Jon on the other hand, is the type of guy who spams memes and GIFs into the chat even if you didn't ask for it. I talked to them for a good few minutes before heading to sleep.

[General Pov, 22:30]
Gathered around a comfortable bonfire the snow family could be seen sitting around it on comfortable campchairs. These were made of wood with padded covers making comfort a priority for those who used it. Those sitting around the fire were sipping a cup of hot chocolate as they engaged in chatter.
Liam the only son of the elderly snow couple had joined the group with his wife Lola after returning from work. Not having seen his older sister in years he was quite eager to talk with her again. Their family was reunited again and they cherished this very moment. At this moment he spotted his daughter in her PJ's and a warm jacket heading out of the house to join them.
"Hi, Aunty May, hey everyone," Jessica quickly said with a bright smile directly taking the empty seat next to May. She proceeded to bombard her aunty with a bunch of questions whilst letting her fuss over her.
This atmosphere lasted for a while as the family engaged in smaller conversations. "Oh by the way have you seen your Hakum," May asked Jessica catching everyone's attention as the boy disappeared after excusing himself earlier.
Blushhing lightly after hearing her aunt remember the nickname she used to use Jessica took a second before answering. "Yeah I met him, he said he was tired and was going to bed," She quickly told everyone wanting to stop the glances she was receiving.
"Make's sense he's been up since five in the morning," May responded with an understanding tone prompting the group to wonder why a 14-year-old would be up that early. After all right now it's the summer holidays and kids would usually sleep in till noon if given the chance.
"Sis, why is he up so early?" Anna asked voicing everyone's questions at this highly unusual behavior.
"He's been getting up that early to train," Ahe simply answered the question explaining how he would wake up that early and being his warmup. From morning Yoga to his hour-long run and his basic balance drills all that gets done by the time he has breakfast at 8 am.
"Did you just say he makes breakfast?" Lola asked stopping May's explanations of her son's new morning habits. "Yes and his breakfast tastes better than mine," She responded with a bitter smile seemingly giving up after losing to her teenage son.
As his mother her overall cooking is superb but for some reason, he seemed to be able to make breakfast a professional chef. It's almost like he only learned how to make breakfast for years. This is reaffirmed by the fact his other cooking is lacklustre at best. It's not Hakim's fault since in his memories he only ever took the time to make breakfast, choosing to skip lunch and have something light for dinner.
"He's been a lot more mature lately, heck he plans our entire move," May stated again breaking through the silence, that was accidentally created. This didn't change matters as the adults around the fire started to look at her as if she was trying to brag about her son.
