Riley's boon

Kal's POV

"Riley," A thought was struck in my mind,

"Why don't we try your boon on this little rodent?" I held up the species in my hand.

"Whoa, Master! Where'd you get that—"

"I can transfigure matter and space, Riley. It's a dummy, but with same components as a mammal. Now, flow your boon on it."

"But how...?"

"Focus your energy. Maybe lift your hand towards it, channel your energy this way." I explained. I see him back away a little. The ground was growing tense. Oiko, Gray and Hana walk away from the space to spectate at a wider range. I couldn't stop smiling.

"Give it your best first shot, Riley." I say to the boy.

"Yes, Master." And then, he lifts his hand up, I can see his energy chanelling.

'You bloody beast,'

The black aura of his red furred beast was dominating his own aura. It was as if trying to engulf his aura into its own. I didn't like where this was going.

I held the rodent away from me, making it squeak. Riley tried to close his eyes and feel the energy as well. It was surging in him.

'What power...'

I couldn't believe my eyes.

He is so flashy with his determination.

Riley was trying to suppress the beast's aura with his own. It's almost as if they were equal at this point.

Does that make him special?

Who was he born to?

I try to remember again.

By the time I came to spectate the destruction caused by a level five dragon to his pack...his mother was already gone. We never found her body, and we assumed that the infinity fire of the level five dragon had perished her into the soil in the blink of an eye. Her possible death still sends a shiver down my spine.

Because even I cannot compete with a level five dragon, with all the powers I have.

In this world of the living, there are five great level five dragons, spread across the globe. They are magnificent creatures with the highest spiritual energy ever blessed to any creature. Not even a God-like Phoenix can be compared to a dragon of that level.

They say that the dragon alone looks like a walking town. It's vastness was beyond compare.

Five of them, with five different forms of living.

That's right.

They represent the five elements of the earth and no dragon was ever given that boon again.

Air, fire, water, soil and space.

The trickiest one is at the last, for it exists beyond time and space.

I've also heard in my four decades of living that the five dragons are more than just representative elemental dragons. They are spiritual successors to God.

And they hold a separate universal truth about existence.

This was beyond me.

And I don't know who is fated to discover the five universal truths of existence.

As if a mere gifted human like me can discover them. By myself.

That's why...I've been collecting the stones for the map. The map which everyone thinks is forbidden to even think about. A map so vile with adventures, that I would rather call it the Game of Death.

The rodent in my hand was screaming for life, and I watched it in thrilling excitement. Is this how my students are going to turn out to be?

The strongest level of Werewolf dragon fighters right from the beginning of their journey?

I'm embarrassed to say this, but it looks like they'll surpass me too.

Some day.

'Go for it, Riley.'

I close my eyes, feeling the power build up in the atmosphere around Riley. He was chanelling it perfectly well, almost like a cannon!

The smirk eventually takes over my lips. And I couldn't help it!

The air and everything around us turns blinding white at the Beam of Death shot towards the rodent.

It went all too quickly, and was overwhelming even for a person like me.

Just like that, in a flash, Riley shot the Beam of Death from his blood boon towards the rodent which exploded gravely in my hand. And it was darn impressive! My hand stays intact!

So this is what is called, 'Trust your protégé under any cost.'

However.

Things never always go as planned.

It all unfolds in front of my eyes in slow motion.

It was not expected to have ended like this.

In front of me, Riley was collapsing. He looked more confused than shocked, and his hand was holding his chest.

His team mates turn towards him with horror struck like lightning to their souls. It was the most unexpected thing I've ever seen in my entire life.

There was - unexpectedly, gravely - a huge hole in Riley's chest.

The most gruesome thing I've ever seen on my favorite child of the Goddess of the Moon.

Before I could even reach his collapsing body, he had already met his demise.
