Chapter 26

Connor

IT was already ten o’clock in the evening and Tara wasn’t home yet. It’s been days since the two of us last talked and it’s been making my wolf pissed. I knew it was wrong for me to say that I was her Alpha first before her mate. I realized it was wrong the moment the words left my lips, but I was too proud to apologize for it.

Earlier today, I knew she was in the packhouse with Isabelle. I was tempted to go over and talk to her, but my pride got the best of me.

My eyes immediately moved from my phone to the door when it opened. Tara’s back was on me as she closed the door. She stopped in her tracks when she saw me looking at her.

“Where have you been?” I asked, controlling my anger.

I shouldn’t even be angry; I know, but my wolf was too protective of our mate. She shouldn’t be outside at this hour.

“I was with Brendon at the greenhouse,” she answered.

“You missed dinner,” I said and looked at the box she was carrying.

“I didn’t. I ate with Brendon and his family.”
