Veluwen

When Basilius opened his eyes it was dark.

Getting up he reminisced on the events prior his unconscious state.

Strangely enough Basilius did not feel any pain, in fact he felt as if he had just had an amazing massage, although he was still extremely fatigued.

Looking at the creature's body next to him anger overtook his mind as he kicked the lifeless corpse for making the mistake of trusting his gut feeling and almost dying.

After that Basilius began carefully walking towards his home hoping to avoid another monster, while setting his thought's straight.

"What was that weird purple mist that suddenly exploded from the marble? Although I feel fine now, could it be poisonous? Will I suddenly drop dead?".

Basilius shuddered thinking of that outcome, but eventually decided to focus on his current situation, instead of dwelling on possibilities he had no knowledge over.

"I can't continue living here. although it would be possible for a few day's, however after my provisions run out I would have to scavenge for food and even that would spoil after a few months, so what should I do? should I head to the Veluwen, although there isn't a lot out there it's at least better than being surrounded by debris where monsters can suddenly pop up and attack you from. Besides there are water streams there and I could even hunt some small animals for food, it sounds plausible. The only thing that I have to be careful off are those monsters".

The Veluwen was the last forest in the Netherlands that they prided themselves over, although it wasn't very large it was a piece of nature where a few species that were mostly extinct in the world thrived such as small rodents, deer, a few bird and reptile species and even a small pack of wolves.

Although Basilius knew there were wolves, he was not to worried about them, as one of the few people not interested in virtual reality the Veluwen naturally became a place he was interested in and read a bit about, so he knew that the wolves stayed at the northern part of the forest where a few open field's were and bigger game stayed, so Basilius planned to stay on the edge of the southern side.

As the Veluwen were in the middle of the Netherlands and Basilius was a bit towards the South, he only had to walk 70 or so kilometers to get to the Veluwen, which was about the distance of two marathons, that was why Basilius thought it was a good plan as it wasn't too far away, and at most it would take him two or three day's to reach, although he would still need to avoid monstrosities like the one he had killed.

As to why Basilius didn't wait for the government to come and help, it was because he thought the government was already destroyed or at least in a very precarious situation, otherwise he would have at least seen a chopper flying or heard some sign of them.

Having studied law, Basilius was aware of the proper steps the government should have taken in the event of a crisis and up until now, not a single one had being followed! Such as sending out beacons, or any sign of life to let people know that they were still up and running.

Basilius was going to wait for one more day just in case he was wrong however after tomorrow if there was still no sign, Basilius decided he would head to the Veluwen although he first hoped to find more survivors.

When Basilius arrived home without encountering anything he sighed in relieve. Climbing down the small passageway that led to his house, he closed the door placing a few objects in front to obstruct the door and immediately went to bed, tired of the day's events.

…..

The next day when Basilius woke up he first decided to put on a new set of clothes as his current ones were ripped in multiple areas in addition to being covered in grim and blood, Basilius also checked the small injuries he sustained from the fight with the creature however what he saw were all just light scars on his body that seemed to fade away soon, a bit surprised he decided to just leave the matter as he had more important things to worry about.

Basilius decided to count his provisions; he still had two bottles of water, a box of strawberries, and about halve a liter of tomato juice left, Basilius cringed at his food and water supply that were the cause of his drunken day's.

Suddenly Basilius thought of something "Hey since the bottom floors are mostly untouched doesn't that mean that there could be survivors in the rooms next to me or at least more food and drinks, which I could use for the voyage to the Veluwen".

Basilius began to act on this plan and searched for a long steel rod he could use to break walls, and his old backpack wherein he put a roll of trash bags which he could use to store provisions and other useful supplies he would find.

Although he wasn't sure there were other survivors, he himself had survived so it wouldn't be that strange if there were others, so Basilius thought it would be a good idea to try and search as many rooms as he could as that would give him more provisions and potential survivors he could find.

Basilius decided to break the wall at the back of his room because behind the wall was a another room whose door lead to a communal hallway, from where he could then easily just break doors to enter the hallway and get in people's rooms.

Basilius could also break through the wall to his left and right, however those rooms' like his room faced the street alley in front of the apartment so they didn't have a communal hallway. Basilius would have to search those another time.

He also did not forget to bring his two cooking knives with him which he put in his backpack in case he encountered another monster, although he didn't think the chances were high as monsters wouldn't just pop up in people's rooms, however he still brought them just in case.

Basilius held the metal rod and proceeded to thrust it into the concrete wall.

Thunkkkk

"Eh, it was that easy?"

Although Basilius expected the concrete to eventually break, he did not expect it to immediately poke a hole in the concrete, in fact he knew it should be impossible especially with how strong concrete currently was.

A bit flabbergasted Basilius began to subconsciously think of the purple orb and how good his body had felt after the orb dissipated and entered his body, and began to question if the orb had some other effects, besides the incredible pain it brought, however for now he just put his efforts on finding provisions, and continued poking holes in the concrete wall with relative ease.
