Chapter 19: Can I Get You a Miracle?

"You know I can ask Mera to keep Alexa alive right?" I tell Ramon and friends.

We gather this afternoon at Jack's house to play mahjong. Alexa is back home, after almost two weeks in the hospital. Her condition has improved, but the doctor said she only has 4-5 months left to live. York Ville is the only option she is willing to take, but the treatment is still experimental.

"And you know you can't ask for that, Justin," says Ramon, shaking his head and staring at me intently.

"You already know risk when you ask for anything related to life," Jared adds.

I sigh. I really hate this.

Ken neatly arranges his nearly-finished set. "Call!"

Jack isn’t playing the game, only occasionally watches us while playing Roblox on his iPad.

"I don't even know where my magic comes from, through Mera and the lake," I complain. "I have to find out."

"Maybe when you know the source, there's another way to heal Alexa?" says Jack nodding and holding up his index finger.
