Chapter 16
“Is it possible that the murderer is an ordinary human who has a personal connection to the supernatural world?”
Riordan’s question was terrifying, and Dillon gaped at his boyfriend in shock. “Oh, fuck! I wish you hadn’t thought of that. That makes everything so much worse. Now we have to be suspicious of everyone in this town.”
“Nationwide even,” Darby added. “It’s highly possible this person is just a visitor passing through, but then they decided to remain here for a while.”
Dillon gulped. “Damn it! You’re right. Maybe the killer is having fun picking his or her victim in our town. When the novelty has worn off, the killer will move on to somewhere else.”
Another stretch of silence ensued afterward. Dillon didn’t know how to lighten up the tense atmosphere at the table. His mind was preoccupied with all sorts of horrible probabilities that might occur in the foreseeable future, and none of them was pretty.
“This is really depressing.”
Darby snorted at Riordan. “Obviously.”
