I Don’t Swing That Way

Feng Fan, on top of Black Chicken's back, raced through the forest like a streak of lightning, heading straight for the immortal's legacy.

Unfamiliar with the terrain, he accidentally wandered into several beasts' territories.

Fortunately, none were fast enough to catch Black Chicken, whose speed allowed them to escape every pursuit with ease, leaving their pursuers eating dirt.

As Feng Fan neared the mountain where the immortal's legacy was said to be hidden, a pack of wolves emerged from the shadows, surrounding him.

Glancing around, he counted at least twenty wolves advancing slowly, their eyes glowing with predatory intent. His heart raced. With no combat skills to rely on, escape was his only option.

Since Feng Fan hadn't yet reached the Qi Gathering realm, he couldn't discern the cultivation levels of the wolves. However, he took comfort in the fact that Black Chicken remained calm—an indication that the wolves weren't stronger than his beast.

Though Black Chicken was faster than the wolves, the situation was dire—being surrounded on all sides made a clean escape much more difficult.

Feng Fan scanned his surroundings and noticed that although the forest thinned as he neared the mountain, a few tall trees still stood nearby. Considering Black Chicken's impressive jumping ability, there was still a chance to escape.

Without hesitation, Feng Fan commanded Black Chicken to leap toward the nearest tree.

The beast pushed off the ground with a powerful kick, soaring more than twenty meters into the air. Just as Black Chicken launched itself, the wolves lunged—but instead of catching their target, they collided mid-air, crashing into each other as Black Chicken was already far from its original spot.

Black Chicken landed successfully on a sturdy tree branch that held both its weight and Feng Fan's combined—a hefty 400 kilograms.

'Lucky for me, these branches are incredibly strong. Could it be due to absorbing spiritual qi?' Feng Fan wondered, glancing at the massive limb beneath them.

Feng Fan didn't wonder about this question for long, as the wolves kept their piercing eyes locked on him, their rage intensifying after their failed ambush. They leaped at the tree, digging their claws into the trunk and climbing quickly.

"Fuck! Since when did wolves learn how to climb trees?!" Feng Fan thought, incredulous by the scene below him.

"Black Chicken, to the next tree!" Feng Fan commanded. Without hesitation, Black Chicken propelled itself to another tree, and the pursuit turned into a high-speed chase among the treetops.

Despite the gap they managed to create, the wolves persisted, relentless in their pursuit. Once all the wolves were trailing behind them, Feng Fan gave his next instructions.

"Down now, Black Chicken! Head straight for the immortal's legacy!" he shouted, spotting their destination less than half a kilometer ahead.

As they neared the location, Feng Fan's eyes locked onto a medium-sized rock bearing a faint inscription. His heart raced.

"That rock! Run straight past it, Black Chicken. Don't stop for anything!"

As Black Chicken and Feng Fan approached the rock at full speed, the air ahead shimmered faintly, almost like rippling water. Before Feng Fan could react, they passed through the invisible barrier without any resistance.

THUD!

The next thing Feng Fan knew, he was no longer atop Black Chicken but sprawled awkwardly on the ground, landing hard his face onto the ground.

"Bleh! Ow! " he groaned, spitting the soil that had come inside his mouth. His eyes darted around in panic.

"Where's Black Chicken?!" His heart sank. "If something happened to it, I'm screwed! I don't have the money to cover the compensation!"

He shook his head. 'Forget it,' he thought. 'At least I made it to the immortal's legacy. Let's see what I can find here.'

Feng Fan looked around, but couldn't see shit, only the soil below his feet. There was a weird fog blocking his vision. "How the fuck am I supposed to find anything here?!" He asked aloud.

"Hehe, looks like we have an impatient one here," a voice said, seemingly coming from nowhere.

Feng Fan froze, nearly jumping out of his skin. "A fucking ghost?!"

'Who the hell is a ghost? Damned, ill-mannered brat,' the voice thought, but it said instead, "Haha, I'm no ghost, child. I am an immortal soul, my body perished eons ago, and now I seek to pass my legacy to the next generation."

Feng Fan was immediately taken aback, realizing he could actually hear the voice's thoughts!

Feng Fan feigned a polite smile, cupped his hands, and said. "Ah, I'm sorry, immortal master. I was surprised. What is this legacy about?"

'It's all about finding a good body for me, you idiot brat, hahahaha,' thought the voice, sending a chill down Feng Fan's spine.

'Fuck! Go take your daddy's body. I don't swing that way!' Feng Fan thought, panic rising within him.

"This test is for those below the Foundation Establishment Realm. It's designed to assess your spiritual qi perception. If you pass this simple test of mine, I'll reward you with my immortal-level cultivation technique!" The voice declared, sounding as if it were offering the greatest opportunity in the world.

Feng Fan pretended to be clueless, maintaining a polite smile. "Immortal master, I understand, but unfortunately, my talent for Qi Cultivation is rather lacking. I must humbly decline the test. Could you please return me to where I came from?"

'Heh, foolish brat. Do you really think you can just walk away after entering here?' The old ghost sneered in thought.

"I'm sorry, young one," the ghost said, his voice now feigning sorrow. "But my soul is long damaged, nearly fading from existence. I can no longer control the trials. You'll have to rely on your luck to pass through... or perish inside."

Feng Fan's brows knitted in anger. 'Damn old ghost. If you want to play games, then let's play. I'll see if you can really possess my body today!' he thought.

"I understand, immortal master," Feng Fan said, feigning humility. "How do I begin the trials?"

"You can see the entire place is shrouded in fog, right?" the voice said. "You'll need to rely on your spiritual perception to navigate through it and find your way out of the labyrinth. But be cautious, every step you take could be your last."
