Ch 19 - Christmas Holidays

"I'll teach him a lesson when I join the team," Draco said taking off his scarf very rudely.

"Kaguya was right, I would have preferred to fall asleep than go see how they didn't kill Potter," Theo complained, throwing himself into an armchair in the common room.

"Potter won, yes yes!" Pansy agreed, tired of her two friends' complaints.

She took off her jacket and gave it to Goyle who always followed Draco with Crabbe, "But it's not the end of the season, defeating Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw was always easier."

"Shouldn't you go see Kaguya?" Theo asked, offended that for Pansy, Potter's victory was nothing, "Maybe she can go and knock Potter out with a spell or something."

Pansy ignored them and went up to the bedroom.

Kaguya was face down on her bed sleeping, her face towards Miyuki.

Her robe was on the floor and she had her shoes on.

"Kaguya!" Pansy moved her a little and sat next to her, "Oye, the game is over."

Black scratched her eyes and turned around to look at Pansy. "Potter caught the Snitch and Gryffindor won," she reported.

"I knew it," Kaguya murmured, closing her eyes again. But then she remembered that animal and opened them suddenly, "I have something to tell you..."

Black got up from the bed and almost fell over from dizziness.

That same night, four Slytherins walked with their wands raised through the castle.

Pansy, Draco and Theo followed Kaguya who lit the way with her wand.

She had told them about that animal that reminded her of Cerberus, the dog of God of Underworld Hades.

Yes, she knew a bit about Greek and Norse mythology, since lately she spent her time in the library or in her lair and Kaguya had already read about several things.

Her friends did not agree with going to visit a three-headed animal, if it existed.

"This school is hiding something from us, I'm sure. Alohomora," The door was locked again, so someone had already entered before.

Kaguya opened it a little so her friends could see the dog who had her back to them while he ate.

The other three were shocked and in shock at sight of this three-headed beast.

Pansy, in her state of shock, slowly closed the door and locked it without saying a word.

Kaguya watched as none of her friends seemed to react, and let out a small evil laugh, "fufu~"

"I think I need to go to the bathroom," Theo said without taking his eyes off the door.

"Yes...." the other two murmured.

"I would never be old enough for this."

December arrived with its mountains of snow, hot chocolate and beautiful Christmas decorations.

Hogwarts students could go with their families for Christmas and New Year, and students who wanted could also stay at the castle.

"Here," Kaguya tossed a black snow cap to Pansy.

"Merlin, I always forget something," Pansy took the hat and put it on, thanking Kaguya for being more responsible with her things, "Is there something you're missing?"

Kaguya looked through her books, her clothes, Miyuki's food, a box with some potions, a photo she had taken with Theo and Pansy before she started packing, another photo with Ron with their faces stained with sauce, several other things that weren't very important and yes, she had it all.

"Wow," Pansy looked at Kaguya's suitcase, swearing there was a golden glow coming off it, "I'll pay you to tidy my room."

Kaguya smiled and closed her suitcase.

She still had one thing to do before leaving for the mansion: say goodbye to her parents.

"You can go to breakfast, I'll stay to make sure I don't miss anything," Pansy nodded and left the room in her winter clothes.

Kaguya tied her hair and put on her scarf, because even though she was still inside the castle she felt a horrible cold run down her back.

She went out and went up to the third floor, which was strangely desolate.

Everyone should have been in the dining room saying goodbye.

Before entering her lair, girl heard some hurried footsteps.

She stood in a corner of the hallway waiting to see who was in such a hurry.

Professor Quirrell walked hurriedly and fearfully through 3rd floor, snowballs following him but he didn't seem to care even when they crashed into his turban, he was going so fast that he didn't notice Kaguya's presence.

She felt a hollow in her stomach and a slight dizziness when Quirrell passed close to her.

Kaguya thought about staying and going to see the mirror, but she felt that must follow Professor.

So she did, and soon was running after Quirrell.

Black had to hide behind the armor and statues, as Quirrell turned around many times to check that no one was following him.

He stopped in front of the door where three-headed dog was.

Kaguya peeked from behind a suit of armor to see how Professor took out his wand and pointed it at the lock.

But something stopped him, as if someone had warned him that someone was there.

Professor turned to the armor, Kaguya put her hand on her mouth praying that he wouldn't see her.

Quirrell approached the armor where she was dying of anxiety and nerves.

But when he went around the armor he saw nothing, decided to escape just in case even though no one would watch him.

Kaguya exhaled as she watched Quirrell run back up the stairs.

He was so close, just inches away from her, but didn't seem to notice her.

"Black!" She jumped at the sound of Snape's voice.

Kaguya slapped het forehead, but she had to tell the teacher about what saw, "Why aren't you in the dining hall?"

"Professor, it's just that..." Her head worked very quickly to try to excuse herself, "I was in the library returning some books before I left, but when I came out I saw a person running down the hall and I followed her to that door...."

Snape's gaze darkened when Kaguya pointed to the door where dog was.

"Have you been in there?"

From the way he said it, Kaguya knew she would be punished if she said "yes."

"No, sir" Snape looked at her in disbelief.

"Who was the person you saw?"

"Professor Quirrell."

Snape nodded.

"Go to the dining room before I punish you for wandering around where you shouldn't," Kaguya nodded so fast and ran towards the stairs so she could go to the dining room.

Black stopped halfway up a step when she remembered why she was there in the first place.

Kaguya glanced at the door where the mirror was, but Snape was still there.

She gave up and decided to go get breakfast instead.

The journey home seemed long enough.

She had seen a three-headed dog, fought a troll, and was sure that Quirrell had something to do with it all.

But it was time to go back home, where she couldn't do magic, and there was no magic mirror with her father's face on it.

Until now Kaguya hadn't realized how distracted she was at Hogwarts, how for several days girl didn't even think about his uncle or aunt.

But she had already taken the train, and for now couldn't go back to Hogwarts.

At the Manor everything was so different, she didn't have Pansy or Theo or Ron, couldn't bother Granger, couldn't even name her.

Lucius left Miyuki at top of the Manor, far away from Kaguya.

Even though she could talk to her aunt about her friends and her achievements in her subjects.

Even though Draco could come into her room to play or talk.

Even though Dobby, being the sweetheart that he is, would take care of all her things and help her with some of her chores.

Even if she had that, it was overshadowed by Lucius and his constant punishments.

It would only be a few days, and in January, Kaguya would return to Hogwarts.

The window gave a direct view of the snow surrounding the mansion, it was so white and looked so soft.

Kaguya wondered when she would see that real snow.

Sometimes she would go out with her aunt or Draco for a while when it started to snow.

But she never threw herself into the snow to make angels, or to create snowmen, or to have a snowball fight.

Because that was not worthy of a lady.

Her uncle had very radical opinions on how he thought Kaguya should behave.

Don't make a fuss, always dress elegantly, hang out with people of your class, don't play men's sports, be very intelligent, get a good job in the ministry and nothing less than that.

If her uncle found out what she did at Hogwarts, he would completely disagree and send her to another school like Beauxbatons.

That was why she liked Hogwarts, because girl could insult whoever she wanted, fight strange creatures, could investigate things that seemed curious to her, Kaguya could talk to people like the Weasleys, show that she was very good at handling a broom.

"Odette!"

Her moment of tranquility was interrupted by uncle's angry shout.

The door to her room swung open, her uncle appearing with a letter in his hands.

Kaguya's lip began to tremble, thinking it was some complaint from school.

"You know that in this house it is forbidden to speak with blood traitors," Lucius pushed the letter over to her.

Kaguya took it, reading the Christmas wishes from Ron.

"It's nothing, really," She tried to lie, but Lucius controlled her very well.

He knew when she was lying to him, because he could see the fear reflected in girl's eyes.

"A Weasley!" he exclaimed angrily, nostrils flaring with disgust and shame, "You were able to lower yourself to his level!"

"Ron is good! He's pureblood!" Kaguya was silenced with a bang.

Fist! Bam!

"Every Weasley is a traitor! I tried to teach you the nice way. But it seems I have to do it the hard way."

Narcissa appeared and stopped her husband's fist with her wand.

Her gaze was frightening, like the gaze of a potential assassin.

Lucius looked at her and slowly lowered his hand, his gaze softening.

"I don't want you to raise your hand to Draco or Kaguya again, do you hear?" Her voice was cold, no one had the right to hurt her children.

"Fine," Lucius muttered angrily, he left the room but not before giving the girl a warning look.

Narcissa ran to her and hugged her.

What was she doing wrong? Why didn't Lucius want her? She tried so hard to be perfect, but Lucius never saw her effort.

Kaguya remembered the look on her father's face when a spell went right.

The man was locked away in Azkaban, but he had won Kaguya's affection in no time, unlike Lucius, who after eleven years had never won any love from the girl.

She would have liked to meet Sirius, but assured herself that it was already more than enough for her.

According to Lucius, everything she did was wrong, perhaps her father will think the same if he gets to meet her.

So there was Kaguya.

Awake in middle of the night, telling herself that crying was for the weak, and learning to hate her family.
