Chapter 20 : Older Loki: The real first magician in the Nine Realms!

The old version of Loki, the true first magician of the Nine Realms!

He could teleport, create illusionary duplicates that were almost as solid as the real thing, and even craft duplicates of others. His most impressive feat? He once manifested the entire city of Asgard from memory alone.

This is where the phrase "Asgard rises from the ground" originates!

In his timeline, when Thanos attacked Asgard's refugee ship, Loki used a duplicate to stab him, successfully fooling the Mad Titan, who wielded the Infinity Stones, and escaped.

After that, he lived in seclusion on a desolate planet for years until old age caught up with him. Longing to see his brother Thor one last time, he left his hiding place—only to be discovered by the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

In the TVA's eyes, a "good Loki" is one who sticks to the sacred timeline. That meant, when Thanos attacked, Loki was supposed to die as part of the script. The old Loki had defied that fate and, in doing so, created a new timeline—so the TVA pruned him.

"Are you a Loki too?" the old man asked, slowly getting to his feet and dusting himself off. With a smirk, he continued, "No matter where we are, Loki always finds a way to survive. But now—"

He gestured toward Jonny Blaze, laughing lightly. "The Lokis are getting stranger and stranger. Now we even have an Asian Loki."

It was clear the old Loki had encountered other versions of himself before. It also meant that the Lokis had been living in the Void for a long time.

Jonny had never come across any Lokis during his previous trips here, but it was undeniable—Loki's survival skills were exceptional.

"I'm not Loki," Jonny said, shaking his head.

Not Loki? Then why weren't you surprised or scared to see me? In this timeline, no version of Loki can be considered a good guy, because it's Loki's fate to be a trickster!

And if you're not Loki, how did you recognize me right away? Only Loki knows Loki best.

"It doesn't matter if you deny it," the old man replied with a dismissive wave. "Do you even know where you are? This is the Void—the dump of the timeline. Everything thrown here is eventually devoured by Elioth, that big guy you just saw."

"Only Loki can survive here!"

In the Void, there were two main factions of Loki variants.

The first was the "Old, Weak, and Wounded" faction, to which this elderly Loki belonged. Its members included him (the "Old"), a young Loki (the "Weak"), a Black Loki (the "Sick"), and a crocodile Loki (the "Wounded").

The other was the "President Loki" faction, led by a variant who looked exactly like the main timeline's Loki.

Though few in number, the "Old, Weak, and Wounded" faction wasn't to be underestimated. Old Loki was the greatest magician in the Nine Realms. Young Loki had killed Thor and lived in the Void for over a thousand years, making him the "king" of their group. Black Loki claimed to have defeated Captain America and Iron Man, collected all the Infinity Stones (which might have been an exaggeration), and wielded a hammer similar to Mjolnir. As for Crocodile Loki, it had bitten off President Loki's arm during a fight.

President Loki's faction, despite having more members, was a ragtag bunch of mediocre Lokis. As everyone knows, Loki's two primary talents are faking his own death and betraying others. Intrigue, deceit, betrayal, and counter-betrayal were the norm in that group.

Both Loki factions and the ever-looming threat of Elioth were obstacles Jonny needed to overcome if he wanted to control the Void and its endless resources.

The old Loki, unconcerned, began walking away, motioning for Jonny to follow. After a few steps, he glanced back to see Jonny still standing in place, his expression unchanged.

And you say you're not Loki? The arrogance, the distrust—classic Loki behavior.

The old Loki was convinced Jonny was another variant, and while Jonny denied it, the old man refused to believe him. So, Jonny thought, if you can't beat them, join them. Let him believe what he wants—at least it'll make things easier.

Jonny followed the old Loki, and the two walked over hills and through valleys for about half an hour, eventually arriving at the wreckage of a helicopter with "Thanos" written on it.

The idea of the Mad Titan flying a helicopter seemed laughable at first, but in the early comics, Thanos really did pilot one on Earth while trying to capture Hellcat, who happened to be Tracy Walker, Jessica Jones' sister. There's even a panel of Thanos being arrested by police, which was part of the same storyline.

Some say that the design of Thanos' double-bladed weapon, the Space Sword, was inspired by the helicopter's rotor blades.

Old Loki led Jonny to a high slope nearby, where he opened a hidden hatch, revealing an underground lair. With a casual gesture, he motioned for Jonny to follow him down into the Loki hideout.
