Chapter 14: The Little Wizard Top Scholar

Lucien never expected that one day he would go to the patrol team of Greybone Academy to pick someone up.

"Lucien Kevin." In front of the guardhouse, the keeper sized up Lucien.

"It's me." Lucien tried to make his tone sound calmer.

"Your student Carly Mayer violated the academy's rules last night by fighting privately with another newcomer..." the keeper read from the documents in front of him and looked at Lucien. "During the newcomer period, any punishments caused by violations of academy rules will be borne by the mentor, as you should be aware."

"I know, and I am willing to pay the fine." Lucien took a deep breath, more concerned about Carly's safety than the fine after hearing about the fighting.

The keeper tapped lightly on the desk, "Half a Magic Stone."

...

"Mentor Lucien." After returning to Lucien's laboratory, Carly hung her head low, timidly looking at Lucien, knowing she had indeed caused trouble this time.

"Did you get hurt?" Lucien looked at Carly.

"No, not..." Carly stammered, hiding her fists behind her back, her face slightly reddening from lying.

Lucien glanced at the system panel.

[Health Level]: 98.79% (left hand minor sprain 0.87%, right hand skin minor damage 0.34%)

"Alright then, let's continue with the class," Lucien said, giving Carly a slightly weird glance, deciding not to bother with the specifics of the fight last night after confirming that his innocent student was not missing a limb.

After all, from Carly's condition, it was clear she hadn't come off worse.

For Lucien, knowing this was enough.

"Ah... Oh?" Carly was startled, she really hadn't expected Mentor Lucien to so casually let the matter drop.

She had made Lucien pay half a precious Magic Stone, after all!

"Do you want me to praise you for fighting without coming off worse?" Lucien seemed to read Carly's thoughts, and not in a good mood, he extended a hand and knocked lightly on Carly's head.

Carly was knocked by Lucien, but a weight lifted from her heart.

Taking advantage of Lucien turning his back, Carly quickly stuck her tongue out at him.

[Your student Carly holds you in high regard, admiration value+2]

But as she tried to pull her tongue back, she found it seemingly dragged by an invisible hand, unable to retract it.

"Mm... Mmm..." Carly was a bit panicked now, trying hard to pull her tongue back, but she couldn't succeed.

Snap—

Lucien snapped his fingers.

Then Carly managed to pull her tongue back. She shut her mouth and then clutched it tightly.

"The core of a wizard is spiritual power, and one of the external manifestations of spiritual power is sharp Perception, so, expect no small tricks undetected before a wizard," Lucien said, holding back a laugh, yet gave a pointed reminder.

"I understand." Carly was still covering her mouth, her voice inevitably becoming somewhat muffled.

"Alright, class is starting." Lucien tapped the desk, ending the small interaction before class.

The lesson continued, and with the help of teaching prompts, Lucien could always quickly find a way for Carly to overcome the problems she faced. Plus, Carly was also diligent, so the teaching progress was actually a little higher than Lucien had expected.

"Alright, take a break. After we finish the last part, we'll go have dinner." Lucien picked up his own cup and gulped down the water.

Carly keenly took Lucien's cup.

However, her attention was soon drawn to a wizardry pen floating next to her, continuously writing something on a blank book. "Mentor Lucien, what is that?"

"Oh, that's a bit of teaching material I prepared for your upcoming basic courses," Lucien explained casually. He found that the convenience of witchcraft lay in his ability to organize teaching materials with merely a thought, a vast improvement over the handwritten and printed materials from before his travels.

"Teaching materials?" Carly looked at the thick stack of paper, still somewhat puzzled.

"Yes, it's some basic academical knowledge I've compiled. After organizing it, I call it 'Wizard Little Prodigy,'" Lucien said offhandedly.

"Wizard… Little Prodigy?" Carly seemed confused, yet she had an indistinct feeling that this was something very impressive.

"Don't worry about it now. When you start learning the material in the back, you'll naturally use it," Lucien smiled at Carly, a smile only those who have experienced similar could understand.

"Oh." Carly glanced at the wizardry pen still writing, unable to make sense of it and simply decided not to think about it.

...

Elsewhere, as Yellen walked out of the guarded cabin, he encountered the indifferent face of Nolian.

"Mentor…" Yellen's face was still a bit swollen, and his voice somewhat indistinct.

"You have caused me an additional loss of Magic Stones," Nolian looked at Yellen, his tone flat and indifferent. "According to the principle of equivalent exchange, you should bear this loss."

Yellen shuddered, well aware of what he was expected to bear.

Last time, he lost his left hand. What about next time? Fear and resistance surged in Yellen's heart.

However, after making eye contact with Nolian's pale yellow eyes, Yellen had to suppress all the thoughts in his mind, and he bowed slightly, anxious. "I understand, thank you, mentor."

"Hmm." Nolian nodded, then turned and left.

"Bastard! Bastard!" Once back in his own quarters, Yellen could not help but roar in anger, striking the wall twice hard with his intact right hand.

He dared not vent his anger on Nolian, but directed all his rage toward Carly, who had fought recklessly.

"Bastard…" A trace of spite appeared in Yellen's eyes. Yet, thinking of Carly's mentor, the deteriorating Lucien, he felt slightly consoled.

Because of yesterday's brawl, he had almost been flayed. As Carly was a student of Lucien, her situation should be even worse, right?

After all, Master Lucien had previously, while treating an injury, even sold off most of his Witch Tools. Carly causing him losses, heh, was bound to face some punishment.

"Once Lucien is dead, I want to see if you can still act so wildly," Yellen muttered, chests heaving, silently cursing with his vengeful thoughts.
