Story 218: The Cathedral of Shadows

Damien and Lena stood at the entrance of the ancient cathedral, its towering spire casting a shadow over the dead city. The doors, once ornate and majestic, were now twisted and half-rotted, barely holding back the horrors within. This place, long abandoned by any living soul, was rumored to be the final resting place of the Scepter of Aegis, a relic that could repel the undead. But getting it wouldn’t be easy.

“We made it this far,” Damien said, eyeing the dark interior of the cathedral. “No turning back now.”

Lena loaded her crossbow, the weight of their mission heavy on her face. “Let’s finish this.”

The cathedral was silent, save for the soft drip of water leaking through cracks in the ceiling. As they moved deeper into the structure, the air grew colder, thick with a sense of dread. Damien could feel the presence of something dark, something waiting. His hand hovered near his revolver, every muscle tense.

“Do you feel that?” Lena whispered.

“Yeah. We’re not alone.”
