Ch - 83 Casual Conversation?

Since Roy, Cisco, and Diggle were all heading towards Infantino and Adams in a modified van, Swayam decided to join them.

While sitting in the van, Cisco, growing bored of the silence, decided to start a conversation with Diggle. He asked, "Are you okay?"

Diggle replied, "My daughter's mother tried to detonate a bomb in a man's head, and now that same man is trying to kill her."

Cisco, sensing Diggle's emotional turmoil, responded, "So that would be a no."

Indeed, Diggle's emotional state was far from stable, despite his efforts to calm down. Swayam, who was sitting with them, could clearly sense Diggle's emotions, thanks to his pathokinesis.

Though Cisco recognized Diggle's distress, he chose to continue the conversation. Diggle opened up further, saying, "Look, Cisco, you don't know me well. I'm the type of guy who's ever only thought about one thing: how to keep the people I love safe."

Cisco, impressed by Diggle's dedication to his loved ones, complimented him, "Well, you seem to be pretty good at that."

Seeing that Cisco wanted to keep the conversation going, Diggle continued, "Yeah, maybe I was good at that before. But that was in a world where people didn't kill each other with boomerangs."

Hearing Diggle reference Harkness's unique method of killing, Cisco shared his own experience with Farooq Gibran, "Or go on a rampage, electrocuting and killing someone just because one day a dude gets to throw lightning projectiles from his hands."

Roy, astonished by Cisco's story, exclaimed, "Wait, you went up against someone who could throw lightning projectiles at you? How did you even manage to defeat someone who could throw literal lightning bolts? And how did you deal with lightning projectiles thrown at the speed of light?"

Swayam, hearing Roy's question, also pondered what would have happened if Farooq Gibran had gained more control over his metahuman ability and had actually thrown lightning at light speed. He concluded that if that had happened, they might not have been able to stop Farooq as they did.

Cisco, considering Roy's question, corrected him, "Well, thankfully, that's not how it went. Because if it had, let alone Sam, even Barry wouldn't have been able to stop him." Cisco then added, "And Mr. Diggle, people like Harkness have been around long before people like Sam and Barry. I mean, this world was crazy before all these metahumans and superpowers, right?"

Roy, confused by where Cisco was going with this, asked directly, "What's your point?"

Cisco, appreciating Roy's directness, replied, "What I mean is that maybe the metahumans and superpowers were given to us to deal with the crazy."

Diggle, still driving, questioned him, "You mean, by God?"

Cisco, a believer in science, responded, "Not by God per se, but by a dark matter wave released from a failed particle accelerator reaction. Either way, I think people like Sam and Barry are the hope for saving people like us, people like your wife and daughter."

Cisco's perspective was optimistic, reflecting his belief that metahumans like Barry could indeed save the day. But when both Roy and Diggle heard Cisco refer to Lyla as Diggle's wife, they simultaneously corrected him. "She's not his wife," Roy said. Diggle added, "She's not my wife."

This sudden correction made Cisco fumble, "O-Okay. But anyway, you see my point, right? Plus, you gotta admit it's all pretty freaking cool, right?" And so, they continued their conversation until they reached their destination.

When they arrived, Barry and Oliver had already handled the situation, capturing everyone present. However, Digger Harkness, their target, was nowhere to be found. It became apparent to everyone that Harkness had outsmarted them, leading them into a trap and making them dance to his tune like puppets.
