Chapter 53 Farewell and New Mission

As I had expected, Paige was waiting for us with her arms crossed, tapping her foot impatiently in front of the door, cheeks puffed out in irritation.

"I can't take a moment to get ready without you disappearing? Are you so eager for me to leave?" Paige said with anger in her voice, and I chuckled helplessly, replying, "No, not at all. I was just showing Leonard the car, right Leonard?" I said, rudely jabbing my elbow into his arm.

"Yes, yes," he nodded quickly, almost dropping his glasses. Unlike the original, this Leonard wore round glasses similar to what Harry Potter wore, showing signs of age with widening and a few scratches.

I truly wondered if Beverly ever cared for her youngest son, aside from using him in her own book. It seemed that for some reason, all my friends had a neglectful mother.

Seeing Leonard confirm Connor's story, Paige's temper eased a bit. "So, are you going to accompany me to a taxi? Or do you want me to go alone in a city I barely know?"

Rolling my eyes, I considered it would be more dangerous for anyone thinking of doing something to Paige.

Don't think that during the time I was with Paige at the Coopers' house it was wasted. I systematically trained her, not as harshly as Leonard, aiming for results in a short period, but a longer, less painful period that was just as beneficial.

"I'll accompany you," I said to Paige, turning to Leonard. "Leonard, you can head home. I'll be back a bit late." With a nod from Leonard, I approached Paige.

"Madam, would you grant me the honor of accompanying you to the nearest taxi?" I said in an exaggerated chivalrous tone, bowing respectfully and offering my hand for her to take.

With a shy, satisfied giggle, Paige took my hand. "Of course, my knight in shining armor." With our arms intertwined, feigning aristocratic arrogance from France before the revolution, I escorted Paige to the bustling street.

"How sweet, look, dear," said a passerby to her companion, pointing in the direction where a small couple walked arm in arm. "So cute, the older brother taking his sister out to play."

Puffing with amusement at the situation, I felt threatening glances beside me but ignored them.

"It seems you didn't like being called my little sister, huh?" I asked Paige, but before she could answer, I continued, "But it does seem that way—our height difference is significant; I'm 1.70 meters and you're 1.47 meters. Maybe you'll grow more in the future, but until then, you'll have to endure it."

Pouting grumpily, Paige hailed a passing taxi.

As Paige got into the taxi, still in a bad mood, she was surprised by something soft on her cheeks. Her eyes widened and she looked in Connor's direction, but before she could say anything, the taxi pulled away.

Inside the taxi, Paige looked at Connor as he waved goodbye and murmured to herself, "Unfair."

After saying goodbye to Paige, I decided to take a stroll around the city since I had nothing else to do.

I wandered from shop to shop, looking for something interesting. But being from the future, everything in these shops was either familiar or uninteresting because later versions were better.

While browsing in a leather goods store, examining a falconry gauntlet, I heard loud noises from the street.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

"Injured officer, officer down, central, please send backup to *** in front of *****."

In front of me, two policemen crouched behind a patrol car.

As the wounded officer called for reinforcements, I saw a car pull up with four people wielding pistols and mini-uzis, firing at the policemen hiding behind the car.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Since we were on a busy street, people ran around in total panic, seeking shelter as best they could.

While the two policemen exchanged fire with the hooded men, a window suddenly appeared before me.

Ding!

Upon receiving this mission, I snapped out of my stupor and quickly assessed the situation. My mind raced, considering possibilities and strategies. Once a plan formed in my mind, I acted swiftly.

Putting on the hood of my hoodie and grabbing a spare mask from Leonard's experiment, I moved quickly toward the criminals.

Running up behind them amid the chaos, none of them noticed my approach.

"You idiot, why did you shoot at them? You know you signed our death warrant, you asshole!" A hooded man asked the man in front of him.

"Forget it. If they searched our car, they'd find the weapons, and we'd be screwed anyway," the front hooded man replied.

"You're right, let's just get out of here," said Connor, standing behind them. The man near the driver's seat nodded in agreement.

"Get in the car quickly; we have to leave before reinforcements arrive."

"Whatever," one of them said before emptying the last magazine into the police car behind them.

Once they all got into the car and drove a few kilometers out of the city, one of them sitting in the back seat noticed something strange. "Don't you feel it's tighter in here than before?"

"You're right," said the other guy in the back seat. "Damn, is it true? Did you guys gain weight or something?" Connor, sitting in the middle of the back seat, chuckled at the situation.

"Wait, wha—" Before he could finish his sentence, Connor activated his hidden blade and swiftly dispatched the men sitting beside him, ending their lives.

Realizing what was happening, the driver slammed on the brakes, while the passenger tried to draw his gun from his waist.

Once the passenger managed to draw his weapon, a black spot appeared on his forehead, and blood soon followed.

When the driver stopped the car and saw his companions were dead, he opened the door and ran without hesitation into the alleys between houses.

"Hehe." Hearing a laugh near his ears, he looked around and found a man in a gray hood, scar, and black mask staring directly at him before lifting an arm, and—

As Connor took out his last target, the mission completion signal sounded.

"Requiescat in pace." Connor left a feather beside his target and checked the system reward.

Open (Yes) or (No)

Selecting "Yes," the roulette appeared on the screen and spun. Instead of colors, everything was black, and it read (Unknown).

Finding it a bit strange, Connor contemplated but soon focused on the selected reward.

"Congratulations, host, for acquiring Advanced Human Makeup Knowledge."

I'm sorry guys, I'm having trouble doing the chapters since my life has gotten a little hectic again, but I can guarantee a chapter every two days, but I'll try to do a chapter a day

I may be taking a while to make more chapters because it feels like I've hit a creative block, so I need to get inspiration from somewhere
