Chapter 19: An old friend.

Rigel forgot that Hugo was the commanding officer who volunteered to take responsibility for millions of lives. He was the commander who led dozens of battalions to prevent the monsters from the portal going beyond Germany. Nobody was brave enough to take on that role, and Hugo was the only one who could do it.

"Rigel. I heard a lot about you and all those praises are hard to believe until I witnessed it with my own eyes," Hugo looked at Rigel who had no visible wounds on his body. "Thank you for your service, young man. You have saved millions of lives by killing those two formidable enemies," his words show sincerity and gratification.

"It's not over, Sir. There are still enemies out there roaming freely," Rigel answered. He looked at Hugo in his prime, a respectable figure with his fancy attire.

"You're correct, and I believe you're targeting the next one," Hugo looked at the map of Berlin. "What do you need, young man? We will assist you with everything we got," he stared into Rigel's eyes.

Rigel found that offer as an opportunity to help him deal with the leader of the drake. He didn't want to break his precious swords to fight that, and if there was anyone who could help him defeat it, it would be the man who possessed hundreds of artillery. That person was standing in front of him, an old friend from his past life.

"I need your whole artillery to fight the leader of the drakes. I can deal with the other leaders on my own, but I can't deal with that one with only my swords," Rigel responded. "I need that drake to be weakened, or at least lose its scales so I can kill it," he added.

"Are you sure you can handle the other leaders?" Hugo furrowed with curiosity.

"Yes. Leave them to me, and you can focus on the drake," Rigel nodded with confidence. "I can lure the monsters away so you can just focus on that one," he suggested.

Hugo took his time to think about the suggestion because it sounded like a good plan. He knew he couldn't divide the force he had because he would need everything he had to fight one of the leaders. With Rigel's help, he could focus on the drake's leader and as long as he could kill it, it would be worth the price.

"How are you going to lure them?" Hugo asked.

"Bullets. I need a bag full of magazines so I can attract their attention," Rigel answered. "I'm going out there tonight and luring the monsters from east Berlin back to center. You can prepare everything and move early in the morning," he pointed out.

"We will prepare everything you need before you leave. You can grab anything you need in the ammunition storage and the weapon storage," Hugo didn't hesitate and gave permission to let Rigel get anything he wanted. Deep down, somehow he believed in Rigel as if he had known him for long.

Rigel excused himself and went to the storage room to grab explosives and other things that could attract the monsters.

After he got everything he needed inside a bag, he departed for his mission to lure all the monsters away. He looked at all the soldiers giving salutations to him. Unlike back then in his past life where people didn't believe in hope and miracles anymore.

"We shared the same fate in my past life. Although what I seek is revenge, those who suffered with me will get what they deserve in this life," Rigel left the base and looked at the wyverns flying under the moonlight as he fixed the bag on his left shoulder.

Hugo forgot to mention Anselm and how Rigel knew about him even though they didn't know each other. He looked at the moonlight, hoping that Rigel could lure the monsters away since it would be a huge help for the soldiers who had been fighting all day.

The silent night was so eerie, but some of the soldiers were asleep because they had no more energy to stay awake. Whenever there was a sound of an explosion and gunshot in the distance, they all woke up. It was a relief that they weren't being attacked, and it was also a good sign that Rigel was still alive and had successfully lured the monsters away.

Hugo stayed awake and waited for the signal from Rigel to see if he succeeded or failed in luring the monsters. When he was enjoying his coffee in his post, he grabbed his binoculars and saw a green flare up high in the sky. He couldn't hide his big smile that Rigel succeeded in luring the monsters away and getting rid of the remaining leaders.

"Wake everyone up," Hugo looked at the soldiers by his sides. "It's time for us to make a move and hunt some drakes," Hugo stood up and fixed his attire.

Rigel looked at the blinking green flare in the sky, and then he turned around to look at hundreds of wyrms, basilisks, and the remaining orc's and ogre's corpses. He then looked down at the leaders of the wyrm and basilisk that he was standing on. He then looked at his left hand where he held 2 glowing stones, dark blue and bright yellow stones.

He consumed both of the stones, and this time he felt his inside was burning, and his eyes were itchy and stinging at the same time. He didn't know it had a different effect from the last 2 stones he absorbed. He was convinced that the stones had different effects, but he didn't know what they were.

The sun rose, Rigel hadn't slept for 2 days straight, and yet he didn't feel tired or sleepy. But, something was off about his eyes because his eyes became sensitive to light. He had to hide inside the building and it was perfect timing for him to wash himself.

When Rigel washed his face and looked at his reflection in the mirror, he noticed his pupils were no longer round. He had slit pupils like the basilisk and realized the reason why he became so sensitive to the light. He then squinted his eyes and slowly his pupils turned back to a round shape.

He started to understand about the stones he absorbed, and what they did to his body. He tested his eyes and reshaped his pupils into a slit. He could see how the water moved a bit slower than normal, and when he turned his pupils back to normal, the water moved normally again.

"No wonder during my fight against the basilisk it can read all of my movements..." Rigel muttered to himself as he stared at his own eyes through the reflection. "Then what about the warmth in my chest? The wyrm could breathe fire, does that mean my inside is warm because it's burning?" He furrowed and put his right hand on his chest.

Rigel tried to release a breath of fire, but nothing came out. He didn't know how to use the power he received and thought about the stones he absorbed from the ogre and orc leaders. But when he was deep in thought, the ground shook gently and realized Hugo had started fighting the drakes and their leader.

"I have no time for this..." Rigel put on his shirt and went to the battlefield since he needed to absorb the stone from the drake's leader.

He followed the sound of gunshots and explosions as he looked at the sky where the wyverns became active again. He could see the wyverns were trying to descend, but the rain of bullets prevented them from getting closer. The most intimidating part was the fact the black dragon was still flying above the clouds like a final boss waiting for its turn to fight.

The battlefield was horrifying where dozens of drakes tried to move forward but got pushed back by high-caliber bullets and piercing bullets. It was deafening and nobody could hear anything but the sound of the combustion of guns and bullets falling to the ground.

Rigel watched from a distance and wondered if he could survive if he was standing in between. When he was enjoying the view, a skyscraper collapsed in the distance, and that was when he saw the leader of the drakes. It had long and massive horns with sharp bones that came out of its back. The moment it whipped its tail, it broke the sound barrier and created a shockwave.

The drake's leader released a powerful roar, shaking the ground and shattering all the glass around it. When the drake stopped roaring, a spark of lightning could be seen on its spine and tail. The spark became fiercer and it moved all the way to its horns. The drake lowered its head and pointed the horns at the Battalion. It released a bolt of powerful lightning and obliterated the road all the way to the Battalion, killing hundreds of soldiers and shredding the tanks and other artillery vehicles.

Rigel was surprised when he saw how strong the drake's leader was.

"I made the right decision to not fight that thing..." Rigel squinted his eyes and looked at the drake with its horns sparking.
