Chapter 124: Disagreement on the Mission

After two and a half days of training, Obito finally grasped the Shadow Clone Jutsu on the afternoon of the third day.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!" Obito formed the hand seals, gathering chakra.

Bang!

A white smoke flashed, and a clone exactly like Obito, neither fat nor thin nor short, appeared beside him.

"I finally succeeded!" Obito exclaimed joyfully.

He could already imagine how abundant his days would be in the future. Going to school? Send a Shadow Clone. Doing homework? Send a Shadow Clone. Chores? Send a Shadow Clone. Playing with Rin... no, that was something his real self had to do.

"That's great." Guy silently dispelled his own Shadow Clone, which had the same skin color as rocks.

He also wanted the Shadow Clone to go to school.

"From now on, you'll go to school, and I'll leave the homework to you," Obito happily said to the Shadow Clone.

However, the Shadow Clone gave Obito an unexpected answer.

"Why should I go to school?" the Shadow Clone asked.

This question caught Obito off guard, and after some thought, he replied, "Because you're my Shadow Clone."

"You are Uchiha Obito, and I am also Uchiha Obito. Why can't you go to school and do the homework?" the Shadow Clone argued reasonably.

"Because... because..." Obito scratched his head, feeling that the Shadow Clone's words made sense for a moment.

"How about I eat Yumi-sensei's meals for you in the future? This way, you can get the delicious memories without worrying about getting fat," the Shadow Clone suggested.

"I can also help you play with Rin-chan, so you'll have more time to train," it continued.

"No, no, absolutely not!" Obito waved his hands frantically, shaking his head.

"Why is this Shadow Clone of mine only thinking about eating, drinking, and having fun?" Obito suddenly realized a problem.

"Don't you also want to dump all the annoying stuff on me and then enjoy yourself?" the Shadow Clone said bluntly.

Obito had nothing to say. He immediately dispelled the Shadow Clone Jutsu.

"Yumi-sensei, haven't I learned the Shadow Clone Jutsu yet?" Obito asked puzzled, feeling like something was off with his Shadow Clone.

Mutsuki glanced at Obito with his analysis, Shadow Clone was already at the Beginner level.

"You have learned it; you don't need to study this Ninjutsu anymore," Mutsuki replied.

"But I feel like I haven't learned it yet; this Shadow Clone is acting weird," Obito felt like he still needed to learn.

"The thoughts of the Shadow Clone are the same as the original," Mutsuki explained tactfully.

The ninja world is vast, filled with talent. Obito arguing with his Shadow Clone was nothing; in the future, there would even be a ninja who fought with their Shadow Clone.

"Hehe, then I'll start practicing the Breathing Technique," Obito gave an embarrassed smile, understanding Mutsuki's meaning.

The original wanted to slack off, so did the clone.

Obito's opinion of the Second Hokage dropped a bit. While this Ninjutsu was good, there were still quite a few aspects that weren't well thought out.

Time always flies when you're living a fulfilling life, and soon it was the last day before school started.

"Let's all take a break tomorrow. Those who want to play, go ahead; those who don't can lie in the yard and contemplate life. After today, there won't be much time for rest," Mutsuki said.

"Rin-chan, let's go play together tomorrow!" Obito chose to rest tomorrow, especially since Mutsuki strongly recommended it.

"Okay," Rin nodded in agreement.

After all, she had declined once before, and it was indeed the last day before school started, a good time to relax.

"Then tomorrow morning, let's go find Kakashi together and invite him too," Rin suggested after some thought.

Obito's originally joyful mood instantly dampened a bit. He had actually wanted it to be just the two of them, but since Rin mentioned Kakashi, Obito turned to Guy and asked, "Guy, do you want to come along?"

"I'm not going. Tomorrow, I'll be practicing Stone Breathing," Guy refused.

From the Shadow Clone's learning, it was evident that Stone Breathing was the only thing on Guy's mind right now.

"What about you, Shisui?" Obito looked at Shisui.

"As long as you guys have fun, that's fine with me. I still have quite a bit of progress to make with Flame Breathing, so I plan to practice all day tomorrow," Shisui replied.

Previously, Shisui had been ahead in various practices, but currently, his progress in the Breathing Technique, especially Flame Breathing, was lagging. Although not by much, there was a noticeable gap compared to before, so he wanted to spend more time practicing to catch up to Obito's progress.

Obito's joy diminished a bit more.

This feeling was like when there were four people in the dormitory, and on the weekend, one person suggested going out to play, but only two went out, leaving the other two to study in the dorm. Could they really enjoy themselves?

"It's just one day; it won't make much of a difference to practice for one more day," Obito comforted himself.

The next day, in the morning.

Rin and Obito met at the designated location, then they went together to Kakashi's house.

They were in luck; Kakashi wasn't on a mission today. Instead, he was sitting at home, lost in thought.

"Kakashi, do you want to come out and play with us?" Rin asked with a smile.

"Obito and I are starting school tomorrow, so we might not have much time after that," she added.

"Isn't it pretty relaxed at the Academy?" Kakashi asked in confusion. He felt like he had plenty of free time when he was in school.

"That's because you're so talented, Kakashi," Rin praised.

"Let's go then," Kakashi agreed, since he didn't have anything to do today anyway.

Seeing Kakashi agree, Obito's mouth, which had started to turn up, now turned down again.

"Damn Kakashi, as a ninja, you should be doing missions instead of resting all day!" Obito muttered under his breath, lowering his head.

"Obito, you..." Rin started to say.

Bang!

Before Rin could finish, Obito, who wasn't paying attention to where he was going, bumped into a utility pole.

"Damn it, Kakashi, can't you put this utility pole in a place where no one will bump into it?" This was the second time Obito had hit it, and he felt the position of the pole was very problematic.

Kakashi: ...

"If there really were such a place, I'd help you find your brain and eyes first," Kakashi replied.

He felt uncomfortable when Obito wasn't being attacked. The position of the utility pole wasn't his decision.

"Alright, you two, don't argue. Let me rub it, and it won't hurt anymore," Rin said softly, then she walked up to Obito and gently massaged the spot where he had just bumped into.

"How are you feeling, better now?" Rin asked softly as she gently rubbed.

"Hehe," Obito felt Rin's warm and soft hand, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. Although he didn't quite catch what Rin asked, he still nodded.

"Then let's continue," Rin smiled.

"Kakashi, have you had breakfast?" Rin asked, remembering something.

Obito had come with her, so she knew that neither Obito nor she had eaten yet.

"Not yet," Kakashi shook his head.

"That's good. I heard there's a new Dango shop on the street with delicious Tricolor Dumplings," Rin explained.

Led by Rin, the three of them went to the newly opened Dango shop on the street.

Each of them bought one serving, three skewers each.

"It looks really good," Rin remarked as she looked at the perfectly round Tricolor Dumplings in the small plate.

"Not as good as Yumi-sensei's tempura," Obito commented after finishing.

"Only you would compare two completely different foods," Kakashi said after eating a small Dango.

"Yeah, the red one with red bean filling is good, but I think it would be even better with strawberry filling," Rin said, unaffected by Obito's comment, after taking a bite.

Though Mutsuki's cooking was delicious, desserts and main courses were in different leagues.

"Kakashi, could you give us a simple description of the life of a formal ninja? Obito and I have two more semesters before graduation," Rin asked curiously.

"Training, missions," Kakashi answered simply.

"That's too simple, it's like saying nothing," Obito couldn't help but comment.

"Is there anything specific we should pay attention to?" Rin asked, continuing the conversation.

"For a ninja, the mission comes above all else. Completing the mission is the top priority," Kakashi replied after some thought.

"Kakashi, you seem like a mature ninja now," Rin joked.

"What's more important than missions? It's definitely comrades. If a mission fails, there's a chance to make up for it, but if a comrade dies, there's no way to bring them back," Obito disagreed with Kakashi's philosophy.

"So you're still a student now, while I've been a Chunin for a long time," Kakashi said mercilessly.

"You're too naive. Some missions, once failed, can bring significant losses to the village, something that one person's life and death cannot compare to," he continued.

"I will definitely become a better ninja than you in the future, just wait and see!" Obito was very unconvinced but also powerless.

He indeed didn't have the capital to argue with Kakashi now because he wasn't even a ninja yet.

"Alright, alright, you both will surely become excellent ninjas in the future. Let's go stroll around the commercial street," Rin suggested.

Then, Rin basically led the two of them around, going for a picnic in the forest at noon. Obito suggested they go to the river to catch fish and grill them for lunch.

"Don't drown, this river doesn't look shallow," Kakashi reminded.

"Don't underestimate me, I have Chakra," Obito said, holding a wooden stick with Kunai tied to it and stepping directly on the water's surface.

"You can already walk on water?" Kakashi was slightly surprised.

Although he was still far from him, Obito was indeed not the same as the Obito he remembered, who used to be a bit of a slacker.

Mastering the Fire Style Nature Transformation, his Ninjutsu seemed to be coming along, and now he could walk on water.

Kakashi grilled the fish, having lived alone for quite some time, he was proficient in many survival skills.

Obito looked at Rin's successful praise of Kakashi's grilled fish and silently vowed to find time to learn cooking from Mutsuki.

Only Kakashi, he didn't want to lose in any aspect.
