The Lake

Fukashi woke drowsily, his mind was clouded by the round of medicine he had. He had been in this damn hospital wing of the school for at least 3 weeks now.

Luckily Shoko, the doctor, had been hopeful about him getting out soon. He slowly sat up and noticed Maki to his right. She looked asleep, with white earbuds in her ears.

Her hair looked messy, her glasses were perched unsteadily on her nose as she supported her head with her hand against his bed side table.

'Did she sleep here' he asked himself, she had come in here last night and they just spoke for what must have been at least two hours and then he just remembers nothing after that, he must have fallen asleep.

He could hear the music faintly, he looked away from her and to the floor. Last night he remembered speaking about his potential recovery. Shoko said she couldn't tell until he could stand.

He gong to stand, he's only tried it once so far and he flopped to the floor like a fish.

He swung his legs over the railing of the bed and they hit the floor with a slap, the cold tile floor made him wince. He then slowly applied more and more weight to his feet until eventually he slowly lifted himself off the bed, his legs were wobbly as for the first time in nearly a month he stood up.

And then he took a step, and slowly took another and kept going. He felt like he was holding the world on his shoulders as slowly he took another step and then suddenly he felt tired, too tired to walk another step.

His legs started to shake, as he looked back to his bed that was at least 5 steps away. Suddenly before he could fall to the floor the medical wings doors burst open with a crash.

He looked to the sound and activated his sharingan, only to see someone he recognised.

"Akira" Fukashi whispered as he stared at the man he hadn't seen in over a month. And as if all the strength in the world had been returned to him he burst forward towards the man.

Well he tried to at least, he felt his legs give way not even 2 steps towards the man. Akira quickly burst forward himself, he caught Fukashi quite easily and started to lead him back to his bed.

Fukashi protested. "Akira, I'm not getting back in that bed, I'm not som-" before he could even finish he was suddenly on Akiras back.

'Wha-' his thoughts were interrupted by Akira. "Come on then, you can get some fresh air" he said while giving his ward and student a piggy back outside.

Fukashi shivered as he came outside, it was early in the morning and more importantly it was freezing. He was only wearing some black trousers, T-shirts seemed to irritate the scars on his torso and back.

But more important than the freezing temperatures he looked up into the clear sky and rising sun in wonder. "There is a lake about 5 minutes that way," Fukashi said while he pointed in a seemingly random direction.

Akira started to walk towards the lake, of course Fukashi wanted to go to a lake he thought to himself with a smile.

Fukashi grinned as they entered the large clearing and saw the edges of the lake.

The lake was something he thought he would never see again, he truly thought when he hit the ground that he was going to die.

He thinks back to his injuries, he's truly not sure how he didn't die. He remembered one of his older cousins died like that, he fell to his death.

Though his cousin jumped off willingly, he thought back to the older boy. He was always relaxed and then one day he killed himself.

His father mourned the boy, he didn't think they had any real connection but his father truly mourned for the boy.

He couldn't even remember the boy's name.

He sighed as he overlooked the giant lake. "Akira put me down" Akira's shoulders tensed but Fukashis spoke again "Just on the floor, I wish to lay down and watch the lake" Akira quickly and gently dropped him off his back and then helped him lay down.

Akira sat down beside him. "Akira, what do you know of the theory that the higher ups killed my clan" he could feel the tension rise instantly.

Akira was silent, Fukashi saw a lone dragonfly flying across the lake. Heard the bristle of the trees as wind blew past them and could smell the grass beneath him.

Then just as Fukashi was about to repeat his question Akira spoke. "I don't personally believe it" he said and just as Fukashi was about to speak up Akira spoke again. "It's a good theory but that's just it, there is no proof or evidence"

Fukashi felt frustrated, he knew it must have been the higher ups, surely! Because if it was just an explosion, who does he have to blame?

If it was just an explosion that meant it was most likely the Uchihas fault for their own demise and he couldn't take that.

He couldn't deal with the fact that his own clan had killed his younger brother.

Akira saw the clenched jaw and furrowed brows of the figure next to him and sighed. "I will look for evidence" Akira said warily "I can't promise I will find any, and I might find some evidence that you don't like. Are you willing to take that risk?" Akira asked.

Fukashi nodded instantly, he needed to know.

He needed to know why his family died.

"Akira, what is Reverse curse technique?" he asked his carer, who only gave him a side glance.

"Why do you wanna know?" Akira said as he glanced at the sky.

"Shoko said I did it subconsciously in the fight against the special grade, it saved my life apparently." Akira's eyes widened substantially, something that Fukashi didn't notice.

"It's a healing technique, you can regenerate even limbs and organs if you're good enough at it," Akira said with a subtle hint of dread in his tone.

Fukashi hummed as he thought of the sheer potential of such a technique. "Akira how do you do it?" His question went unanswered.

Akira stood and gently patted Fukashis head, this time he didn't protest and stared across the large peaceful lake.

"I need to get back to work Fukashi" Akira said. Fukashi instantly turned around with widened eyes and raised eyebrows.

"What? You can't leave now" Fukashis voice sounded desperate as he spoke "You just got here".

Akira nodded down at him. "I'm busy, the higher ups are working me down to the bone" he laughed at the end of his statement but it sounded tired, hollow.

Fukashi looked up at him, he gave Akira a small sad smile. Akira turned to leave but Fukashi spoke up incredulously "Hey! You're just gonna leave me here?!" He shouted.

Akira turned back with a sudden grin that Fukashi hadn't seen in a while "Don't worry, I'll get that green haired girl out here to save you!" He shouted back.

Fukashi felt his face warm as he looked away from Akira with a scowl on his face. "Maybe she'll even carry you on her back!" Akira shouted while laughing.

Fukashi felt his face warm even more as he stubbornly ignored Akiras laughing, but found he had a small smile on his face.

When Akiras laughter faded from the clearing he found the small smile he had dropped off his face.

"Akira report" a faceless man said to the caretaker of the last Uchiha.

Akira spoke with an emotionless face "The Uchiha is doing terribly in the healing process. He can't even get out of his bed" Akira scowled "The boy can't even sit up straight"

The faceless man's teeth shone through the shadow covering him as he grinned in delight. "Good, now the rumours of reverse cursed technique?" He asked.

"Not true, the boy hasn't got nearly enough control to use that technique." Akira paused slightly. "It was a mix of Shoko Ieiris healing and pure luck that let the Uchiha survive."

Danzo hummed as he watched the two men talk 'Fate let that Uchiha live' he thought to himself 'Fate loves the Uchihas'

'It's time to defy fate and finish the boy off' Danzo thought to himself.

He felt one of his bandages come slightly loose and before any could see underneath it he quickly tightened them.
