A wave of consciousness slowly crashed over me, pulling my brows into a furrow as the ache in my body screamed at me.
"Are you awake?" My ears picked up Thomas's voice, muffled but laced with life. My eyes remained shut, my lips numb and refusing to form a reply. I heard him shift uncomfortably closer. His cold fingers slipped into mine, and I knew it was him. "You'll be alright," he assured me, but the tremor in his voice betrayed his attempt to hide the worry.
With a struggle, I forced my eyes open. It took a few blurry moments to adjust to the dimness of the room and finally register where I was.
My frown deepened as I took in the opulent surroundings. No wonder the bed felt like a cloud. Thankfully, I saw no tubes attached to me. With a groan, I tried to raise myself, leaning against the plush headboard.
"Where am I?" I rasped, my eyes flickering around the room, taking in the details.
