Chapter 54 : Betrayal
Night descended upon the forest as Stone, and Cloud joined forces, setting up camps a few kilometers apart. In the brightly lit camp of the Konoha Ninja Army, more than a dozen ninja squads and Anbu squads patrolled the area.
A tall earthen wall surrounded the Konoha Ninja Army's garrison, with two gates—one facing the United Ninja Army and the other facing Village. At the main entrance, a team of guards, exhausted after standing watch for almost an afternoon, prepared to be relieved by a fresh team.
As the new team approached, the captain of the guard team, Takashi, welcomed them. Among the newcomers, a young man named Mizuki greeted Takashi with a smile. The relieved captain reminded Mizuki's team, who were on duty at night, to stay alert.
The original guard team gradually walked away, leaving Mizuki and his team in charge. Mizuki, standing in the center of the gate, observed the remaining guards while holding a watch as if counting the time. His eyes narrowed, and a sneer appeared on his face.
One team member guarding the inside alone complained of a stomachache and rushed away. Mizuki, feigning concern, chided him for eating indiscriminately. The team member, embarrassed, left in a hurry using the instant body technique.
Mizuki, seizing the opportunity, instructed the remaining guards to wait for the sick team member's return. A sinister smile played on Mizuki's face as he watched the team member outside suddenly lose signs of life, silently assassinated by a man in black.
Casually approaching the guards inside the door, Mizuki, holding a concealed kunai, swiftly incapacitated them. Mizuki signaled, and men in black, wearing Cloud or Stone forehead guards, emerged from the forest, entering the gate.
Mizuki, indifferent to the fate of his former partners, glanced at the corpses on the ground. Cloud's personnel had already removed them. An unusually tall man, identified as Fourth Raikage, approached, and Mizuki kneeled, reminding him of their agreement.
Due to Mizuki's lack of recognition within the village, he held a grudge, and this war provided an opportunity for him. After a month of overcoming difficulties, he met the Fourth Raikage and reached an agreement. Mizuki would allow the coalition forces to enter the gate during his team's duty in exchange for Konoha's sealed book after its demise.
The Fourth Raikage, ignoring Mizuki, left with the little old man beside him. Mizuki couldn't hide his gloominess, snorting that he would demand equal treatment once he obtained the sealed book.
Before Mizuki could finish his statement, a kunai pierced the back of his head, a white-haired young man, looked at Mizuki with contempt as he pulled the kunai out.
"Hmph, it's a disaster to betray your village and stay in the world. Maybe one day it will be like betraying Konoha and stabbing us in the back," the boy remarked, waving his hand indifferently.
A ninja from Cloud sealed Mizuki's body into a scroll, erasing any trace of his betrayal.
