CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

My eyelids flicker lazily for the umpteenth time before it finally opens, my eyeballs still firmly laced with sleep. I squint, trying to focus on what's before me.

 

It's as though I can't recall what transfixed a few hours before I slumped into this deep sleep. There's no one around, it all feels odd. How long has it been since I drifted? Three days... one week?

 

Jeez! I feel numb.

 

The door opens without prior knocking, and Hendrix walks in. He stalls when he realizes I'm wide awake, as he tries to keep whatever he's holding away from me.

 

He looks at me keenly, assessing to know if I'm fully awake or if it's just my system fighting the medication. Sadly, I'm wide awake. I focus on him squarely, just as he does me... Having nowhere to hide, he just lingers where he's standing, but he knows better than to walk away.

 

"Huh, look who finally wakes up." He mocks.
