Who is he?

As I sat there on one of the building roofs motionless, staring at the sight of the city, I thought back to what had happened in the train, or what used to be the safe haven I had built for the survivors who I thought were "loyal."

After I hit the train door out of pent up anger, the zombies who were about to kill me, suddenly out of the blue, altered to be way more powerful and terrifying creatures.

Did it have something to do with my temper?

What had the zombies become?

My head started to spin around in agony as I tried digging through the full contents of the situation. I needed clear context, as for now I couldn't understand anything.

Deep down, I wanted to try and experiment with it, but the chances of getting eaten were too high, snapping me back to reality.

I would have to investigate about this more thoroughly another day. My head was throbbing, I feared if I abused my brain any further, I'd lose consciousness.

"What was your name — Onion?"

Alarmed, I quickly turned around.

I heard my neck crack, but didn't pay much attention to it. I had something to deal with that was way more important than my unintentional self inflicted neck pains.

Standing there on the roof with me, was someone with fluffy brown hair and natural emerald eyes, looking a lot like Keok, my old "companion."

"It's Orion." I growled, still upset from the whole problem that landed me on this very roof in this very moment. Then color drained from my face.

Who was this person?

"Orion, Onion, same thing."

"Who are you?" I demanded, distraught.

I'd never seen him in my "group" before, and I thought we were the lone survivors.

"Keres. Ever heard of me?" He grinned. "Or maybe you're too busy taking care of your, so called, group that ended up leaving you?"

How did he know that?

"What?" I uttered, my eyes staring into his.

If my headache wasn't bad enough, my heart rate dropped as my mind began to generate a bunch of more un-answerable questions.

Keres slowly walked over to where I was, still wearing his grin.

"I know what happened. You're lucky you met me! I can help you!" Keres smiled proudly, confident in his abilities.

"You?" I scoffed. "Yeah right."

I wasn't going to trust some random person who appeared to be stalking me. Who knows what possibilities could happen? I'd probably end up in a pirate ship — or in other words, earning myself a ticket to another roller coaster ride that goes on for eternity.

"I've been in a similar situation. I saw you get betrayed. I saw you mutate those zombies. I can help you get revenge. Trust me, this is something you wouldn't want to decline!" Keres said, his swaying fluffy brown hair matching the motion of the wind.

There was no sound except for the blowing wind.

Millions of thoughts popped up in my head like viruses popping up on a computer.

Even with those millions of thoughts, I couldn't find anything to say to decline his offer. I didn't want to seem rude but I also didn't want to risk another betrayal.

Finally after what seemed like years, I responded to him.

"Fine. But I have my guards up, don't try anything."

I had already lost everything. I didn't have anywhere to stay, anything to eat, any weapons to defend myself.

I'd just have to hope the "Keres" guy would genuinely help me, unlike the "Keok" guy who left me locked in a cage of death.

"That's more like it!" Keres replied, giving off energy that would probably come from a friend when you finally agreed to something they wanted to do.

"So…what's your plan for this revenge you speak of??"

"About that…I was waiting for you to agree first!" Keres muttered as he plastered a nervous smile on his face.

Before I could say anything, he spoke again.

"But my plans always work! So this won't be a problem." Keres said, trying to sound more convincing.

We both avoided eye contact and kept our mouths shut.

I knew Keres was waiting for my response, but I was thinking about something else.

How was I supposed to get revenge when I don't even know where the group went?

"Sorry to crush your hopes, but I don't even know where the group went." I grunted, making my voice sound even more drained than it had already gotten in the past few hours.

Keres was silent for a moment, but then he turned to face me, with a genuine look on his face.

"My hopes aren't crushed. We can find them together and get your well deserved and desired revenge." He encouraged me, a sparkle in his eyes. "If I couldn't get my own revenge, I'll help you get yours!"

"Your revenge?" I asked, curious.

I was hoping for a response to my question, but Keres changed the subject, rambling on about ways we could get my revenge.

Then he mentioned something about my ability to "mutate zombies."

"It would make it much easier for us to get your revenge! I can teach you how to use the power."

"You know how to use it?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Well…let's meet up tomorrow morning at this same place, same time to discuss about your powers." Keres hastily said, waving goodbye and running down the stairs.

I kept my eye on him as he ran away in a hurry to get to his destination — wherever he was going, until I could no longer see him anymore.

Yes, I did want to test out my ability, but something about Keres seemed off. Whenever I asked him anything about himself, he'd change the subject back to me.

I ignored my uneasiness and started to look forward to tomorrow, hoping for the best from Keres, hoping he wouldn't end up leaving me like Keok did.
