Chapter 145

Dio entered the tower through the roof as usual.

After going through various authentication measures, he descended using the elevator to the floor of the common room.

Dio could see the golden blur running back and forth quickly in the kitchen as the elevator doors opened.

"Wally, what the hell are you doing?"

Dio asked Kid Flash.

Wally stopped moving in the middle of the kitchen while holding a lot of food as if he were stealing it.

There was a new rule in the tower and it was created after last year's incident.

Do not use power inside the rooms set up for that.

"Late-night snack,"

Wally replied still frozen in the middle of the kitchen.

"I'm talking about your powers."

Wally slowly walked over to the counter, where he dropped all the food he had in his hands.

"I just got back starving, and it seemed empty, so... late-night snack?"

Wally tried to bribe him.

"Just be careful. The last time you got excited about your speed, it led us into a food war that destroyed two floors of the tower."

Dio reminded him.

"I still deny that accusation. I wasn't responsible for starting the great food war."

"Sure, sure."

The problem with living with superpowered teens was that things could get out of hand.

For example, a food fight that turned into a real war when teenagers got too excited and used their powers and abilities.

"Are you sure you don't want one of my big sandwiches?"

Wally asked while opening a bread bag.

"Wally, I am a demigod, and I believe that consuming over one of your sandwiches per month would cause cholesterol issues for me. Besides, I brought my own food."

Dio showed him the small bag he brought with him on the way.

The food wasn't for him; Dio had already eaten. He didn't want to be forced to eat.

"Your loss."

Wally said as if Dio was missing out on eating one of the seven wonders of the world, which Dio had seen all.

"I'm going to my room and then spend some time in the lab. Remember to clean up everything when you're done."

"Wait!"

Wally shouted and Dio stopped.

"What?"

"You're not going to pull a mad scientist into training again, are you?"

Wally asked with fear.

Wally was close to the windows hit in the last incident, so he's a bit fearful of his experiments.

"No, I'm just going to read some books."

Dio lied to him.

Wally believed him and put his full attention back on the food on the table.

On the upper part of the common room floor are the rooms.

Dio didn't go to his room.

Instead, he walked to the end of the hallway and knocked on the black door covered in skull stickers that said "Go Away!" in big blood-red letters.

"Who is it?"

Raven asked without opening the door.

"You know damn well who it is, why do you keep asking every time?"

Raven could sense everyone's emotions.

Dio wasn't sure how it worked, but each person had a unique emotional signature that she could determine after spending time with them.

"Politeness."

Raven replied.

"If you want to be polite then open the door."

"I'm starting a meditation session now and maybe some other time."

Raven declined.

But Dio knew Raven well, and he knew her weaknesses.

"Then what should I do with this bag of croissants that I brought from your favorite bakery?"

Dio lifted the bag in front of the door while knowing she was watching him.

"From the bakery in Chicago?"

Raven asked with a more interested tone.

"That's right, but since you don't want..."

"THUMP!"

The door swung open violently, and Raven snatched the bag from his hand like a tiger ripping the flesh off an animal with its claws.

"Come in already,"

Raven said and returned to her room but left the door open.

Raven has grown and changed a lot in the past two years. She has more curves on her body now, and her breasts are one or two sizes bigger.

She used to have short black hair, but now it goes to her shoulders.

She was wearing simple black clothes, a shirt, and a long skirt that covered her legs with only her bare feet exposed.

"Your room is certainly the most well-decorated."

Dio looked around her room.

It's not his first time here, but it always surprised him a bit.

First, Raven used a complex space expansion spell, so her room had about thirty cubic meters.

She also installed two more rooms here, one for her clothes and another as a bathroom, while turning her room into a small apartment.

She painted all the walls purple and closed all the windows using magic.

The lighting in the room comes from floating candles on the ceiling, something Dio teased her about since she stole the idea from Hogwarts Castle.

Raven has a double bed with a purple sheet that hasn't been used yet. She doesn't sleep in it.

Instead, she sleeps next to the bed on a stack of pillows of all sizes next to the bed.

There's a shelf on each wall.

The majority of them are packed with books, but some are empty and hold plants or monster body parts that she could use in her spells.

There is a meditation rug in the middle of the room with a circle and a triangle in the middle like a pentagram.

This was done to help her focus and block out any noise outside.

Raven didn't pay much attention to him. She sat on the rug, opened the bag, took out a croissant, and brought it to her mouth.

Dio also sat on the floor in front of her.

"How's Vanessa?"

Raven asked while eating slowly.

She was more polite at the table than Starfire, or maybe she didn't want to act that way around him.

"She and her idiotic boyfriend are planning a trip out of the country and said they'll visit you later."

"You always talk about how you'll 'handle' her boyfriend when the topic comes up, and now he's trying to steal your sister from you. Should I be worried?"

Raven asked with her head down and paid more attention to the food than the conversation.

"She'll bring the skull, so I'm a bit more relaxed, and about the boyfriend, I'm almost certain he's a good person and won't try anything stupid."

"Almost certain?!"

Raven stood up and looked directly into his eyes.

"Yes, why?"

"Dio, you asked Robin to find this guy's entire history online, then made some guesses, and finally summoned two ghosts from his family to see his memories to be sure of his birth. You should definitely have more than almost certainty!"

"Yes, I should have tried harder; maybe find a more powerful seer. You know divination is not my specialty."

Raven gave him one of her rare looks of shock.

Dio understood that this was too much for her.

However, he knew much more than her about how dangerous and scary this world can be.

It's never too much for him to be careful around people he cares about.

Raven seemed to finally give up on this subject and returned her attention to the food once again.

"How are things with you?"

Dio asked and he made her stop once more.

"And don't try to give me a usual answer. I know your issue, and I know who you are."

Dio reminded her.

"My father's patience is not limitless, even though he's immortal."

Raven replied.

Trigon wanted to dominate this reality, and he wouldn't stop until he achieved it.

However, he must have been invited by her, and since he didn't have many options in another reality, he's furious.

"The Church of Blood is also becoming more active lately. They already know you're under our protection and haven't tried anything directly. Instead, they seem to be looking for something."

The League and the team have been keeping an eye on the Trigon cult.

Raven lost her appetite and put back what was left of the food in the bag.

The only things that showed on her face were pain and fear of what would happen.

Dio lifted his hand and touched her face without thinking. Immediately, he felt her body freeze in surprise.

"But that's not a problem for now, and you're not alone. Remember that."

Dio told her as calmly as he could while gently caressing her.

She then moved while putting her hand over mine and pushing it away from her face a little flushed.

When she did that, Dio realized what he had, and felt the warmth on his face, which must have been red with embarrassment.

"I'm going to the lab, call me if you need anything!"

Dio quickly stood up and headed towards the door without looking at Raven, who also didn't say anything.

"Thud!"

Dio closed the door and pressed his back against it.

That wasn't a cool move. He did it unintentionally, but it wasn't cool.
