Permanent Attribute Elixirs

This class not only taught the basic theory and the use of equipment but also instructed in the preparation of a remedy for scabies.

The so-called scabies potion, in short, is a medicine for treating skin diseases, capable of curing pustules, measles, furuncles, and other symptoms of lymph node tuberculosis. However, the preparation process needs to be very careful, as incorrect preparation can cause these sores instead of curing them. Unlike various spell courses, Potions class emphasizes practicality and doesn't dwell much on theory.

After explaining the process and precautions, Professor Snape paired the young wizards two by two and let them get started directly. Cauldrons, mortars, scales, stirring rods, small knives... Apart from not using alcohol lamps, the experimental facilities in Potions class were almost identical to the chemistry experiments in Kevin's previous life.

According to Snape's explanation, the young wizards skilfully handled the herbs, weighed them, dipped them in egg wash, coated them with breadcrumbs, and fried them in oil, making the kids at the next table all drool.

To brew a good batch of scabies potion, you first need to take several snake fangs and grind them into powder. Then weigh a small number of dried nettles and cut them into sections. At the same time, heat a cauldron of water, and put in a horned slug with antennae for steaming. After boiling with cold water repeatedly for three times, drain the water from the cauldron and take out the slug. Put it in the mortar and grind it into a paste.

Then add water to the cauldron again, heat it over low heat, and add snake fang powder, dried nettles, and the paste of horned slug one after another. Remember to stir while adding. Finally, move the cauldron away from the fire and throw in the porcupine quills. Allow the potion to stand for a while. If the potion turns blue and pink smoke rises from the cauldron, it means that the brewing is successful.

Kevin's partner was his roommate, Stephen, but the entire brewing process was led by Kevin. This wasn't surprising because Kevin had worked in Diagon Alley's apothecary during the summer vacation, so he was quite skilled in handling ingredients. Stephen watched Kevin's performance in admiration throughout the entire process. It was then that he realized that Kevin, as a top student, was an all-rounder: he not only excelled in charms and was knowledgeable about textbooks, but he also excelled in practical courses like Potions.

However, only Kevin himself knew that the magical potion system in the wizarding world was somewhat lacking in his view. In his previous chemistry lab classes, all experimental materials were measured precisely to millilitres and milligrams, and heating and standing times were accurate to the second. It emphasized professionalism and precision. By following the process precisely, the results were almost identical.

In contrast, brewing potions as a wizard was filled with numerous phrases like "a bit," "a moment," relying entirely on the practitioner's intuition. Once the intuition was wrong, it could lead to big mistakes. This meant that magical potions would always be small-scale products and couldn't develop into large-scale industrial production.

Kevin had to wonder; how could he develop magical industrialization with such elements? For instance, right now, he watched as Stephen was about to toss the porcupine quills directly into the cauldron. With quick reflexes, Kevin waved his wand and said, "Porcupine quills, come to me!" The porcupine quills immediately flew out of Stephen's hand and into Kevin's.

"You can't put the porcupine quills in until you take the cauldron off the fire!" he reminded. If he hadn't intervened, the potion would have exploded just like in the original story, with the erroneous potion splattering all over and giving him a painful rash.

After hearing Kevin's reminder, Stephen finally realized and stammered, "Th-thank you, Kevin." Not waiting for Kevin's response, he heard Snape hissing, "Our Mr. Green thinks he's a 'Ravenclaw genius and can teach others?"

Kevin's warning had prevented a mishap, yet Snape still mocked him, deducting house points in the process. As in the original story, Snape coolly taunted Harry and deducted points for his failures, which reminded Kevin that dealing with the old bat would never be easy.

However, Kevin also gained something from this lesson:

[You have learnt the techniques of potion-making for the first time, mastering the skills of Potions. You have obtained the skill: [Potion Mastery]. [Potion Mastery: Your steady hand improves your success rate in brewing potions and reduces the chance of accidents occurring.]

[You have had an epiphany in the process of brewing the scabies potion. You combined it with the spells you mastered to create new potion recipes: "Eternal Bear's Resilience Elixir," "Eternal Bull's Strength Elixir," "Eternal Cat's Grace Elixir," "Eternal Fox's Cunning Elixir," "Eternal Owl's Wisdom Elixir," and "Eternal Eagle's Majesty Elixir."]

Surprisingly, it was a potion with permanent attributes!

The results of this epiphany greatly satisfied Kevin. For wizards, spellcasting ability was undoubtedly the most important, but physical and mental attributes should not be neglected. Unfortunately, throughout the entire world of Harry Potter, there was no potion to enhance a wizard's physical and mental qualities. If one wanted to become stronger, they had to put in their own effort to exercise. Kevin also considered whether it was time to start working on physical training; even as a wizard, it was important to develop one's moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labour capacities in harmony.

Now, with this shortcut, he wouldn't need to exert himself. The only concern was that the materials required for these elixirs were quite rare and time-consuming to collect. For instance, the main ingredient of the "Eternal Bull's Strength Elixir" was the blood of the Rhayem Bull, which was hardly available on the open market, making it challenging to obtain.

Then there were elixirs like the "Eternal Cat's Grace Elixir," which required powdered cheetah claws; the "Eternal Fox's Cunning Elixir," which needed nine-tail fox tail-tip fur; the "Eternal Eagle's Majesty Elixir," which demanded powdered griffin beak; and the "Eternal Bear's Resilience Elixir," which involved the paws of the Beerym Bear. These ingredients came from various places around the world and were highly treasured, making it expensive to acquire them all.

The most challenging of them all was the "Eternal Owl's Wisdom Elixir," with the main ingredient being Korred head feathers. In Kevin's memory, there were no Korred in the Harry Potter world. They must be from the witcher then... or perhaps a combination of both?

On the other hand, secondary materials were relatively easier to come by, such as Hopper Juice, Moonstone, Grindylow Tongues, and Unicorn Hair, which could be found in the Forbidden Forest. Kevin couldn't help but lament, "Darn it! I swore not to go to the Forbidden Forest, and now, just a few days later, I have to reconsider my plans. Plans can't keep up with changes."

Regarding this, Kevin felt quite helpless. What else could he do? As long as he could become stronger, a few barks here and there wouldn't matter (Remember his promise to himself "If I act like Harry Potter and get into trouble everywhere, I'm a dog!"). After all, he had only made the promise to himself, and no one else could hear it.

In any case, inventing these recipes didn't mean that his attributes would be instantly enhanced, but it was indeed a good start. This only strengthened Kevin's determination to earn more money.
