Bian looked sound him in confusion, he had no idea on how to get back. The island had been shattered into several floating pieces of land on the sea, nothing could be used as a landmark.
"Not again, I refuse to be stuck on an island ever again" Bian gritted his teeth and rode the Emperor Manticore in the most likely direction of land.
After seven days of flying without break, Bian arrived at relatively large Island. There were people on this island.
A hunting squad had just finished off a pack of ordinary creatures, evil hyenas. This hyenas would attack in groups which made them difficult to deal with.
Bian came through a clearing, there were no trees in this area but very high shrubs. The members of the hunting team noticed him immediately.
"Zack, look there's someone coming over" A short man wearing hyena fur as a jacket said. From his tone of voice, Zack seemed to have some strength among the members.
"Are you from the shelter, why are you outside alone?" Zack came up to Bian and asked. People would only go out and hunt in groups, so Bian couldn't be a hunter he reckoned.
Also the nearest island was miles away, it wouldn't be an easy travel for a group much less for a single person.
"I am not from here, I was chased by a powerful beast and got lost. Where is the nearest shelter?" Bian asked so as to rid himself from their company. Especially the short man wearing hyena coating, he reeked of human blood.
Zack who was about to speak was cut-off by the short man "What bullshit are you spitting, how could a single person be chased through the ocean and come out unscathed and dry. Tell us the real reason you came here."
Bian had some holes in his shirt but didn't have a single injury on his person. His clothes were dry because he rode on the manticore. It was common knowledge that sacred-blood wings couldn't fly faster than sacred-blood creatures making traversing the air deadly, so they assumed he must have been chased in the ocean.
"I don't have anything more to say" Bian said with a sigh, the men brought out several weapons and slowly encircled him.
"Leave him be Onak, he doesn't have any ill intentions. Otherwise he wouldn't have come out so peacefully" Zack tried to interject.
With a scoff Onak responded. "Seems like you've forgotten your position, don't forget your wife is still in the shelter."
Zack clenched his fist till his knuckles turned pale, Bian willingly followed them back to the shelter.
Bian was taken to a barn of sorts, two men stood guard outside while Zack kept him company.
"Have things always been this way?" Bian inquired. Zack shook his head and narrated the story of the shelter.
The name of this shelter is Blacktooth shelter, Onak was a relative of the owner of the shelter, Labak. Labak had a fortuitous encounter and gained a tremendous amount of strength, he single handedly conquered the squire class shelter.
When the news spread, everyone around the area returned back to the sanctuaries. Labak, broke all the teleporters in the room and that in a nearby cave. The only active teleporters left was that in the spirit hall. Several guards were put in place to protect it.
Zack and his wife both spawned in that cave, they casually hunted some creatures for months, they never planned to go to a shelter, but were caught and forced into slavery by Labak.
Only rich and influential people were allowed to come and go through the teleporter. Not one person even bothered to help the common people that were denied access back to the alliance, rather they treated them like trash.
"Now that you are here, I'm afraid you're also out of luck. Onak went to bring in Labak, if they find your status in the alliance is low, then.." Zack stopped speaking but Bian understood the crux of the matter.
Any influential figure could have stepped up to help, but no one would stick their necks out for others.
"Why didn't you run away?" Bian asked, Zack had some impressive skills and could definitely fight off Onak.
With a wry smile, Zack explained that he couldn't leave his wife behind. For her sake he had been exploited for several months. Even if he was given another chance, he would make the same decision.
Bian was touched by Zack's story, with his perception he could tell if a person was lying. Zack meant every word he said, it was hard to find an upright yet strong man like him.
"Don't worry about it Zack, I'll take care of Labak and Onak." Bian puffed up his chest to relax Zack.
"It is not that easy, several rich and influential figures are backing them up now. The fallout in the alliance would be devastating if you killed them." Zack explained.
With a bang, a large man wearing an eyepatch walked in. He sized up Bian as he approached him.
"Zack! You can leave" he said coldly.
After Zack left the barn, Labak took a good look at Bian, he could easily distinguish the rich from an average person.
Bian had silky white and flawless skin, even better that the girls he had seen. Labak judged him to be a pretty boy who had a decent background.
"Nice to meet you, may I ask for your name?" Labak made a courteous bow as he spoke.
"Bian, Bian Manwei" Bian said to Labak in an impassive voice. Immediately, Onak scurried out of the building.
"Right this way" Labak took Bian to a house. He sat him down and several women dressed in maid uniform, came in to serve them. Most of them looked malnourished and some had bruises on them.
Bian saw a woman who resembled his mother. Anger! Endless anger surged through his heart. Even the heavens couldn't save Labak from certain death now.
Bian maintained his cool, he would get everyone involved in one swoop.
"What do you do for a living?" Labak asked
"I am a musician"
"Oh! It must be hard in the declining music industry, although I heard some songs had been popular lately."
"Yes, the people need a hero after all, if there is no one, they can turn to music to soothe their pain." The state of the alliance was a bit bleak. Since there was no dollar, no leading human figure in the sanctuaries people weren't so happy.
The majority of people in the alliance where evolvers. Every divinity bout in the second sanctuary had been won by spirits, humans never even entered the top 10. The people were burning with a passion to accomplish this feat, music was a nice crunch to boost their morale.
"Well the things of the alliance are separate. Even if you succeed as a musician, will you truly be above?" Labak asked in a rhetoric tone of voice.
"The Nings, the Ji family, angel gene, saints hall. The list goes on, even with money you never truly have power. Why don't you join us here in the sanctuaries, where you can be a real power figure. Have people waiting for your every beck and call." Labak spoke in an almost hysterical manner.
Onak came rushing in and whispered something in his ears, a smile bloomed on Labak's face. Although a person couldn't check a company's worth, they could see their status.
According to Onak, Bian Manwei was the name of a figure who owned majority of the assets in a multi-trillion dollar company.
If he could get him to join them, imagine the money they would get.
"Well, are you interested in becoming a king?" Labak asked once more.
"I accept, but you must give me the best house" Bian stated a singular demand.
Labak was a little bit shocked by how quick he was to join. He laughed for a bit and stood up.
"You can have a house in the cardinal." He stood up and took Bian to his new home. It was a large building which had been furnished and decorated. Despite its pristine state, Bian raised a brow at it.
"Is this really the best you've got? Can I check out the other house" Although it sounded like a question, Labak knew it wasn't.
"Only the exterior, you can only see from the outside. The people need their privacy" Labak responded, hiding his discontent behind his smile.
Bian smirked and signaled for him to lead the way, together they traversed the inner area of Blacktooth shelter.
With his genlock active, Bian could see through walls. No one here had a high enough fitness to notice his piercing gaze.
Anger!
The anger in Bian built up, abuse, rape and torture. The owners of these houses were as guilty as Labak, just because the sanctuaries lacked laws their barbaric nature leaked out.
As they passed by the last house Bian was surprised by what he saw. This house had an underground basement and something unexpected was happening within.
