CONFRONTING THE PAST I

Arriving home with Rex, I hesitated as we approached the door, feeling reluctant about facing my mum. Rex, however, was already there, pressing the doorbell. Mum answered the door and her face lit up with relief when she saw me.

"Oh my! You are finally home," she exclaimed, pulling me into a tight hug.

I could sense she had been worried about not knowing where I was yesterday. Despite her concern, I didn't feel sorry for her; a small part of me felt justified that she experienced some of the anxiety she often caused me.

"Thank you, Rexford, for asking your mum to let me know," Mum said, finally releasing me from the hug.

I shot Rex a glare. I had explicitly asked him not to inform my mum about my whereabouts, and now here I was, hearing the opposite.
