Jonathan took me home to see his mother overnight. He seemed happy and touched my belly from time to time.
When we got home, my stepmother was sitting upright on the sofa with a gloomy face. She seemed to have known the news.
Jonathan pulled me to her and said, "Shirl is carrying my baby."
"Jennifer told me everything. You idiot, why don't you build ties with the Benstons?" My stepmother suddenly jumped up, and blue veins stood out on her forehead. "I don't care whose baby it is. I can't possibly allow you to get married."
Jonathan smiled coldly and said, "Mom, someone offered to buy my company for exactly Shirl's father's share of the estate. I plan to transfer it all to Shirl's account."
My stepmother's chest heaved as her eyes widened in disbelief. She raised her hand, ready to hit me, but Jonathan stopped her.
I couldn't believe it either. He worked so hard to run the company so he could give the money to me?
Was he telling the truth or not?
