Chapter 68 - Pedant

Hearing a noise coming from the main corridor of the dungeon, Kaito pokes his head out of the room of dusty books. Attentive, he looks down both sides of the corridor, both at the door he entered through, which has closed, and at the small staircase further along, which leads to a lower chamber. But he finds nothing. Nevertheless, he leaves the room to check if the other doors are open or something.

As he walks down the torch-lit corridor, the echo of his footsteps resonates off the stone walls, creating an atmosphere of suspense.

Suddenly, Kaito hears footsteps and immediately stops walking. Slowly, he looks behind his back, towards the stairs. His senses sharpened, he watches the shadows the torches cast on the walls, and, sword in hand, Kaito keeps looking back. Finally, three figures dressed in black hoods appear, climbing the stairs in a hasty manner.
