People They Thought of as Family

Maya gasped as Nathaniel took a step back, he handed the whip to someone else, probably one of his subordinates.

To her surprise, the rest of her family seemed quite calm and at ease with Nathaniel's methods. 

"Maya, if it's too much, tell us," Belle told her older sister, glancing toward Maya as Nathaniel once more demanded names from Gary. 

"It's not, but how can you be okay with this?" Maya asked her sister. 

Her little sister who was still in University, a finance major, looked unbothered and was more concerned about how Maya would react over the violence occurring in the other room.

"I guess he isn't that bad," Nico shrugged as they waited for Gary to give Nathaniel names.

Their cousin seemed ready to break at any moment.
