“Hopefully, we won’t end up in direct conflict with Isaak Crowin.”

“I guess you don’t think he killed my mom, then?”

“According to my friends, he hasn’t left Springwater the whole time I’ve been gone.”

“I’m not asking if he did it himself. It seems like you don’t think he ordered someone to do it, either?”

“As I’ve said, if he wanted me dead, he would have killed me a long time ago. Don’t get me wrong, I hate him, but I don’t know why he would suddenly send an assassin after me.”

“Hitman.”

“What?”

“This isn’t a renaissance fair. A person using a gun in the year 2023 is called a hitman, not an assassin.”

“Fine. Hitman. I don’t think he would have sent one after me, and as the same person who attacked me seems to have attacked her, I don’t think he could have been behind it. In fact, he’d probably want to stop someone from killing me.”

“Why?”
