Personal Space

Greta cleared her throat getting down to business. "Your job exactly is to see to his every need. He didn't exactly ask for a maid but I thought to get him one." His. That means it's only one of them.

"I see"

"The last few maids I got him, didn't last a week. None of them" she adds and I gulp. "Don't worry dear, he's not mean . He just loves his personal space a lot. So if you can respect that, you'll be fine" Greta say and then sat down.

"You'll make him breakfast in the morning and his dinner. I believe you can cook?"

"Yes" I said quickly. "Most dishes. I even know some Mexican menus"

"Very good. Also, when he's home, make sure he gets everything he asks for even a glass of water"

"Very well" I comply and take the last bit of tea remaining in my cup.

"Also, you might run into Lily some few times. Be nice to her and treat her well too"

"Who?"

"His fiance" Greta said.

I smile with a nod because my mouth was full. Definitely a youngie if he had a fiance. Was he handsome? He's definitely a billionaire. I swear I've heard his name before.

"Would you like to be paid weekly or monthly?"

I gulped my food so quick I choked on it. This was the part I'd been waiting for all this time and I wasn't about to miss it.

"Um... weekly please" I say. At least I could be paying Roger bit by bit.

"Then five hundred dollars would be sent into your account every week"

My mouth hung opened when I heard the amount. Oh shit! Even at Mega I wasn't paid up to $500 in two months and this woman was offering me that amount in a span of one week. How generous could the universe be. In my first to second pay, I could pay Roger all of his money. All the bills, light, water and maintenance.

"Thank you so much, Greta" I grin.

"Also, you're to call him Mr Styles. Any form of informal behaviour would result to you being fired" Greta said and I nod because nothing could make me loose this job, ever. Until I've paid all of my debts and raised a life for myself. "Do you have another job?" Came the next question.

I bit my lip. "I work at Mega. It's a publishing company."

"You'll have to quit it then and pay hundred percent attention to Mr Styles"

I went quiet for a while. This job pays more than Mega. Of course if I'm to quit anyone it would be Mega and I'm happily do so even though I'd miss it and all it's books and reports.

"Yes" I squeak.

"Good. You officially start working here by tomorrow and don't be late. He hates tardiness"

Mr Styles seems like a rigid man.

...

I stop by Mega on my way home from Bronxville to hand in my resignation. Cory looked awfully proud of me friend for getting a well paid job even though it was being a maid. Apparently I made the safest choice because Henrietta was sad at loosing another writer at Mega seeing as the place was going bankrupt. A lot of people were quitting.

But I spent a good amount of time with some of my friends I'd known over the years working here at the lounge, we had coffee and rolls talking about good old times before I had to go.

I rounded up some few assignments, cleared my desk and went to get some groceries with the $200 given to me by Greta, for starters.

MAX POV

Greta helps me with my brief case the second I stepped into the house. She was all smiles and it was getting a little suspicious. I've known Greta all my life to know when she had news or something happened and she wanted to talk about it, or worst, tick me off in the worst way possible.

"What's with the smile?" I finally ask her.

"I got you a maid"

I let out a long string of profanities. "Did I ever tell you I need a maid?" I boom with annoyance.

"You need one, Max" Greta argued. "I won't have you going to work without having breakfast  again. And you know with my health I can't be in the kitchen for long" Greta scolds and I roll my head back. I couldn't take it when she shoved her health issues in my face. It could make me do almost anything. Greta has been the closest thing to a mother to me since I was ten when momma died and I had to suddenly be a big boy that took care of his younger ones. But she was there.

"So where is this maid?" I ask, hands in my pocket.

"She start tomorrow and Max, be nice to her" she said pointing fingers into my chest. Of course I'm nice to people until they annoy me. After Liam, I'm the nicest in the family.

"I'll be married soon and I won't need any maid again" I tell her and it makes her aughs at me.

"You think Lily would be able to stay in a house without maids? Sure, you won't have a personal maid but you'll have staffs around"

For the first time since this whole marriage ordeal started, it hit me that I wouldn't be able to live off my personal space any more once I got married. And Greta was right. I dislike when she's right all the time.

"We'll work on that"

"Better. But for now, be content. She's a nice girl. I could tell" Greta smiles. "Also, she knows how to make mexican dishes. They've always been your favorite"

She's right again. It was always my favorite since I was a child. Mexican dishes even though I was fully an English man.

"I'll have dinner out with the guys" I say before walking up to my room to have a cold shower and get out of this house. It was annoying enough that I had a maid assigned to me but Greta making it known that it would only get worst once I got married to Lily became a burden for me. Whoever this maid was, she better keep her distance from me at all time or I'll fire her ass in a second.
