The hours following Cedric’s death lived in Brynn’s mind as disjointed flashes of memory.

William, blood-soaked and sorrowful, but still resplendent in his victory, held his hand out to her. She took it, and righteous fire flowed between their palms.

They found Maeve and Garan on the steep path through the woods. Brynn merely glanced at them as Edwin lifted an injured Maeve into his arms, ignoring Garan’s protests.

Vesta followed, shocked and silent.

Brynn stayed at William’s side as they entered the clearing. Gore littered the ground, as well as several lifeless husks in both wolf and human form. Apparently, most of the pack had eventually devolved into battle as Brynn chased Cedric up the cliff face.

The Pack was silent, parting as William walked through them to the center of the clearing.

One by one, they all knelt to the ground and bowed their heads in observance of their new Alpha.
