A Booming Business (Arc 2)

Feng Yongrui was invited into Wang Xiamei's house again. Wang Xiamei apologized for hitting him and led him to her mother.

"Mum, this is the monk I told you about. He's the one who healed you!" Wang Xiamei said eagerly.

Feng Yongrui was embarrassed and shook his head. "N-no need to thank me... This is all because of your good fortune..."

"Sir, how can I repay you?" Wang Xiamei said. She rummaged through her drawers and took out a small gold bracelet.

"Sir, this is the only thing I have... Please accept it," she handed the bracelet to Feng Yongrui.

Of course, Feng Yongrui did not accept it.

"Young lady, I am a monk. I have no desire for worldly things. You can just keep it and use it in case you need it," Feng Yongrui replied.

Wang Xiamei was visibly disappointed, and she pursed her lips.

"Well, Sir... In that case, what can we do to repay you?" This time, the one who was speaking was Wang Xiamei's mother.

Feng Yongrui pondered for a while and then replied.

"Well... if it isn't too much trouble, then I do have one request."

The two women listened eagerly, their eyes shining like stars.

"Just say it, Sir," Wang Xiamei urged.

"As a monk, it is my duty to help others. Unfortunately, people tend to think I am a scammer... I am a monk and this is my first time going down them mountain after spending several years in seclusion."

"This time, I went down the mountain to accumulate good fortune and to help others who are in need. Unfortunately, I am old. I do not understand modern devices. I have no house or fixed residence, and I have no connections..." Feng Yongrui trailed off.

"I would like to ask for your help regarding this matter... Help me find more people in need... Spread the word about me.." Feng Yongrui paused.

"I'm not doing this because I want to be famous or because I want money. I simply want to help others. So if you can..." Feng Yongrui did not finish his sentence.

Wang Xiamei nodded her head quickly.

"Sir, I understand. Don't worry, I will definitely help you," Wang Xiamei said with conviction.

Feng Yongrui was pleased. He finally had someone who could help him advertise~

A few hours later, Feng Yongrui finally exited Wang Xiamei's house. He exited with a full stomach (Wang Xiamei had him stay for lunch) and he carried a small flip phone on his left hand.

Wang Xiamei's family wasn't rich. She couldn't afford to buy a new phone for Feng Yongrui.

The only thing she could give him was that small flip phone. This phone could only be used to send text messages and make a phone call.

But, it was enough.

Wang Xiamei had told Feng Yongrui that she would contact her friends and see if anyone needed help.

Once there was a "customer", she would tell Feng Yongrui by sending a message to his phone.

Feng Yongrui would then be able to help those people.

It was a good plan. This way, Feng Yongrui wouldn't have to walk through the streets hoping to find a client.

Now, he had Wang Xiamei, who had a lot of connections and relatives. Among them, there was bound to be someone who needed the help of a monk.

Time passed by in a flash. Two months had passed -- Feng Yongrui's real body was now just one month short of becoming a two-year-old.

During this time, Feng Yongrui had not been idle. Wang Xiamei was really an efficient person. Almost every single day, Feng Yongrui would be faced with a new customer.

There were many kinds of customers. Sick people, people who were afraid of ghosts, and people who wanted a monk to bless them with auspicious fortune.

For the sick people, Feng Yongrui would go to their house, chant a few times, and then touch the sick person on the forehead or hand.

Within 12 hours, the person would be healed, and his/her family would rejoice. They would thank Feng Yongrui repeatedly, and then spread the word to others.

Thankfully, there was never a time when a sick person couldn't be healed with Feng Yongrui's "All Cure".

There were also customers who were afraid of ghosts or were plagued with nightmares.

For these people, Feng Yongrui would give them a talisman from the "Ultimate Taoist Package".

Although the System itself was no good, the items from the System were always satisfactory (at least so far).

Feng Yongrui did not know what the talismans were made of, but the people who complained of nightmares and ghosts said they were able to sleep and live better thanks to the talisman.

Now there were also people who wanted a monk to bless them or read their fortunes.

For the first kind of person, Feng Yongrui would give them a talisman or an item based on their circumstances.

For example, for blessing a newborn baby girl, Feng Yongrui would give her a bracelet made with wooden beads from the System.

For these kinds of people, there was not sure way of proving that Feng Yongrui's items had helped them. For sick people, as long as they were healed, it proved that Feng Yongrui's words were real.

But for "good luck", how can someone prove it? And, how can you prove that your good luck is really because of a monk's items and not just a coincidence?

However, there were times when Feng Yongrui's customers told him that his items really worked.

For example, there was this one client who needed a monk's blessing when they moved into a new house.

Feng Yongrui had searched the "Ultimate Taoist Package" and found an auspicious knot. He gave it to the client to hang inside his house, and the client obeyed.

Several days later, there was a flood. All the houses and residences in that area were flooded, but this client's house was not flooded at all.

The client was impressed, saying it must be because of the monk's blessing, and so this client spread the word about Feng Yongrui to his relatives and friends.

All in all, it was a good thing.

Feng Yongrui's "business" was booming, and he became more and more famous. He received more and more customers, and Feng Yongrui was naturally happy.

Of course, every time Feng Yongrui helped someone, he did not ask them for money or any kind of compensation.

However, Feng Yongrui still felt that it wasn't enough. Although he was famous amongst the common people, he needed someone from a rich and affluent family to acknowledge him.

This way, the Yin family was bound to notice him and invite him to their residence. When that time came, Feng Yongrui would go (as the Taoist Monk) while the doppelganger stayed in his place.

One day, Feng Yongrui decided to take a stroll through M City. After arriving in the modern world, he had been so busy adapting as a baby and trying to befriend the protagonist that he hadn't had time to go sight seeing.

If Feng Yongrui had money, he would definitely want to go shopping... Not for clothes... but for food...

After all, Feng Yongrui was a foodie.

Unfortunately, Feng Yongrui had no money -- he didn't have a smartphone either. He was really poor.

Still, though, Feng Yongrui wanted to go sightseeing. Therefore, Feng Yongrui shapeshifted into a teenager with clean and neat features.

He wore a simple T-shirt, jeans, and white sneakers. With that appearance, Feng Yongrui was no longer a monk. He was just a normal teenager strolling through City M.

It was too bad, he didn't have an ID card.

Feng Yongrui walked through the streets and admired everything he saw. The bustling streets, the shops filled with people, and the... uh... traffic jam on the road...

"As expected... the atmosphere in a modern world is very different from ancient times..." Feng Yongrui muttered.

"Well, do you mean the modern world is better?" the System asked.

Feng Yongrui wanted to say yes, but he paused for a moment.

"Well, each world has its own charm, I guess," he admitted.

The modern world reminded him of his days back on Earth, with the familiar vehicles, the sound of cars honking and engines roaring, and the smell of exhaust gas.

As for the ancient world, it gave him a surreal feeling, but not in a bad way. The ancient world was filled with exquisite ornaments and he could see nature more often.

Both worlds had their own charms.

Feng Yongrui noticed a noodle shop at the corner of a street and his stomach began grumbling.

It seemed like his stomach was blaming him for being useless and not having any money...

"Maybe I should look for a part-time job?" Feng Yongrui pondered.

But, who would hire someone like him, who had no qualifications, no experience, and. most importantly, no ID card?!

Feng Yongrui walked closer to the noodle shop and looked at the menu through the glass window.

He had to control himself not to drool...

"Young man, you look hungry," Feng Yongrui heard a voice behind him and turned around.

Feng Yongrui's eyes: I spot a noodle shop!

Feng Yongrui's mouth: *starts drooling*

Feng Yongrui's stomach: I want some noodles!!!

Feng Yongrui's brain: Sorry guys, we don't have money.

Which kind of world do you like more? Ancient world or modern world? And why?
