Chapter 90: Xavier was Hurt

The submitted pieces of evidence were the bank records and the misdiagnosis report.

The bank records showed wire transfers from Carla Kent and the doctor's bank accounts. The misdiagnosis report showed his first diagnosis. Attached to it was an authenticated copy of his diagnosis.

A video clip, which recorded the conversation between Carla Kent and his doctor, was also played for the jury to watch.

The video showed the younger Carla Kent entering the doctor's office.

With an overbearing aura, she threatened the doctor. Should he not obey her, his family would suffer. Not only that, but he would also lose his medical license.

She also stated in the video her intentions for doing this.

She wanted Xavier dead to punish Abigail Lockhart. She hated her for stealing Theodore Stevens from her.

Her intentions were clear.

The overbearing and malicious intent was oozing from her body. The audience shivered in fright.

Gasps from the audience echoed inside the courthouse.

"Order in the court!" the judge hit the gavel to restore order.

This new development utterly defeated the defense lawyers. The lawyers could not defend Carla Kent from conviction.

Carla Kent was fuming in anger. Their incompetencies made her sick.

Carla Kent was someone who would not accept defeat easily.

She was planning for her next move against Xavier. However, she didn't expect another trouble would come.

"It's her!" someone shouted at the audience.

Everyone turned their heads to see who shouted.

They saw a woman in her late forties standing at the last bench. Tears were streaming down her cheeks. However, her eyes were clear. She was pointing her index finger toward the woman on the screen.

"Excuse me! Please be seated, or else I'll escort you out of the court," the bailiff told her.

"Your honor! I'm here to file a murder case against Carla Kent. She killed my husband!"

"And who is your husband?"

"Dr. Lucas Marshall!" Mrs. Marshall yelled, hence the audience was in an uproar.

"Order in the court!" the judge hit the gavel.

"I have evidence to prove my claims," she said.

"Mrs. Marshall, I encouraged you to file a formal complaint. Please refrain from causing chaos in my court," the judge said.

"We will support you," the prosecutor announced. Mrs. Marshall finally calmed down. Nonetheless, she looked at Carla Kent's back with anger.

The trial ended. Xavier and Zarah left the courtroom. The police and Xavier's men escorted them out of the courthouse.

They made sure that Zarah and Xavier were safe.

They boarded the car and were driven to the company afterward.

Xavier attended a meeting while Zarah stayed at the office.

Zarah seemed to be working. However, she was checking the CCTV footage around the courthouse.

Her computer screen was full of different CCTV footage displayed on multiple windows.

She could not find anything suspicious.

So, she broadened the search perimeter.

She recalled the trajectory of the bullet when it passed by between them.

She tried to make a simulation on her computer to pinpoint the sniper's location.

She closed her eyes and reviewed what she could remember. She considered the windspeed, the angle of the car, and the bullet's entry point.

Zarah's eyes opened. She applied everything she remembered in the simulation.

Finally, she managed to pinpoint the sniper's location.

He was farther than she thought.

However, she heard the gunshot sound. She was sure that it was closer than she anticipated.

She tried to think of an explanation. Her eyes widened when she finally figured it out. There were two snipers in the place!

If that was the case, where was the second bullet?

Something clicked inside of her.

She got up from her chair in a hurry. She headed to the conference room to look for Xavier.

However, she found the room empty.

She met Lena in the hallway.

"Miss James, why is the conference room empty?"

Lena frowned after hearing Zarah's question.

"Chairman Lockhart postponed the meeting. I thought Assistant Rupert had already informed you."

Zarah's suspicion grew. Her heart pounded so fast, and her face turned pale.

"Are you okay, Miss Jansen?"

Zarah didn't answer her question. She went to look for Rupert at the EA Office.

However, she only saw Elliott there.

He got tensed when he saw Zarah. It meant that he was hiding something.

Zarah could read his body language well.

"E, do you know where Xavier is?"

"I'm sorry, Zarah. I can't tell you."

Zarah's expression darkened.

She left the room and went back to the office.

She opened her computer and started tracking Xavier's whereabouts.

Everyone could run, but they could not hide from her.

She hacked through the City Traffic Division database. She started checking Xavier's whereabouts.

She was also replaying the CCTV footage of the building where the sniper was hiding.

Her training in multi-tasking paid off. She managed to track Xavier's whereabouts. She spotted his car at the Pine District's Villa.

She also managed to find the two snipers on the CCTV footage she reviewed.

What disappointed her was she could not identify them.

She knew that the villa had functioning CCTV installed in hidden locations.

She started hacking through the database to get a live feed of what was happening inside.

She found Zavier inside one of the rooms in the villa.

Xavier was lying unconscious on the bed.

Men who were wearing long white gowns were surrounding him.

Zarah's eyes darkened when she saw blood on Xavier's white shirt.

His right side was injured!

Zarah inwardly castrated herself for not seeing this sooner.

No wonder he looked so pale during the trial.

He was losing a large amount of blood! He needed blood!

Zarah immediately packed her things and went to Elliott.

She barged into the EA's Office and said, "I don't care what Xavier instructed you, but you have to bring me to where he is ASAP!"

"Zarah, Chairman X-" Elliot didn't finish as Zarah coldly cut him off.

"I said, I don't care! Bring me to the villa in Pine District, or else I'll file for divorce immediately!"

She didn't want to be a young widow. She would rather be a divorced woman than a young widow!

Elliott had decided to obey her than Xavier's stern instruction. Zarah was scarier than Xavier when angered.

A few minutes after, they were in the middle of the streets. They were cruising through the traffic.

Zarah kept monitoring Xavier's condition through her phone.

Her face looked so focused that it affected Elliott's driving.

He was unaware that Zarah was monitoring Xavier's ongoing operation.

And behind her focused face, she was trembling in nervousness and anxiety. She wanted to cry. However, she knew crying would not help Xavier.

Therefore, she was suppressing her emotions inside of her.

She was looking at the surgeon's face and the assistants who were conducting the operation.

Should something happen to Xavier during the operation, she would hunt and haunt them down.

Zarah looked at the empty blood bags. He was on his third bag, but the operation was not over.

It was a critical operation, and Zarah could not bare to watch. Nevertheless, she had to.

Their car finally arrived at the villa.

Zarah got off the car, and everyone was surprised to see their Mistress' arrival.

She should not be here!

They looked at Elliott accusingly, but the latter shrugged his shoulder.

He had no idea where Xavier was. He only followed Zarah's instructions. He assumed Rupert confessed.

"Let me in, or else I'll divorce your boss, now," Zarah warned them.

Meanwhile, Zarah heard displeasure from one of them.

"Aren't you heartless? Master Xavier's fighting for his life inside. Yet, here you are. You're throwing a tantrum."

Zarah could recognize her. She was one of the three people who arrived with Xavier the last time.

She didn't know who they were or how they were related to Xavier. Nonetheless, they were important people.

"Stop it, Nancy!"

Another man showed up with an apologetic face.

Zarah had finally remembered why the surgeon operating Xavier was familiar. He was one of them.

However, she was uninterested in what they do in life.

"I'm very sorry, Mistress. Nancy is just worried about the boss's well-being. So, she got carried away," he apologized.

Zarah would not mind it initially. But after she heard him, she decided to pay more attention.

He then ushered Zarah inside the living room. He asked her to sit on the couch, but she declined.

"How's my husband?" she asked him.

"The surgery is not over yet. Don't worry. Tristan Miller is a genius surgeon in medicine. He can save Master," he reassured.

"I'm sure Master suffered that injury to protect this weakling," Nancy mumbled. However, her voice was loud enough for others to hear. Her words were full of prejudice against Zarah.

Other than Zarah, others paled when they heard what Nancy said.

"That's enough, Nancy! One more word and you'll face, Master!" he warned her sternly.

After they received the news of Xavier's sudden marriage, they became curious about the bride's identity.

However, when they saw the wedding photo from Rupert, they immediately recognized her.

Xavier kept Zarah's photo inside his wallet. Her photo was his most treasured possession.

They happened to see it when it accidentally fell from his wallet.

Xavier did tell them that other than the woman in that photo, no one deserved to be their Mistress.

They thought their Master was talking nonsense. Zarah looked so young in that photo.

Looking at her face-to-face, he thought her appearance didn't change much.

"Vince, don't be fooled by her appearance. She's just lucky to be married to Master. However, I knew she was not different from the others who tried to seduce Master."

Zarah walked to Nancy and looked at her.

"Yah! What are you doing?" Nancy subconsciously stepped back when Zarah came closer.

Zarah examined Nacy's features. She was pretty, but that was it.

Zarah looked down to hide the triumphant smirk on her face.

When she looked up, she was back with her indifferent face.

"You sounded like someone who had feelings for my husband, Miss Nancy."

Everyone was speechless when they heard their Mistress' words.

Deep down, they were secretly cheering for Zarah while criticizing Nancy.

They were aware of Nancy's feelings for Xavier.

"Too bad you missed the chance of being Mrs. Lockhart. Don't even think about being Mrs. Lockhart. Unless I'm dead, you will never get the chance again." Zarah was taunting her.

"You!" Nancy was trembling with anger.

"Since my husband trusts you, I'll let this off. However, there will be no next time."

Zarah took a few steps back before she turned her attention to Vince.

"You're Vince, right?"

"Yes, Mistress!"

"Take me to where my husband is," Zarah instructed.

"We're not allowed to enter. Tristan banned everyone from entering," Vince tried to explain.

"It's fine. I will only take a look. I won't disturb the operation."

Zarah's statement baffled everyone.

"I knew it! You're one of the enemies! Vince, she's a spy!" Nancy tried to convince him.

"Shut up, you banshee!"

"What did you just call me?" Nancy asked in disbelief.

Zarah rolled her eyes and ignored her.

"Do you have a spare sterilized gown?"

"We do have it. Tristan always stocked them just in case something like this happened."

"Lend me some then."

Vince had no other choice but to comply.

He asked her to follow him.

"Seriously, Vince? Are you going to trust that woman?" Nancy said in protest.

"Shut up, Nancy!" Vince's voice reverberated inside the living room.

Just then, Chris and Rupert came down to check the commotion.

Zarah's eyes darkened when she saw blood stains on Rupert's jacket.

"Zarah, you're not supposed to be here." Chris anxiously said.

"If not here, then where should I be?" she asked him.

Chris couldn't find any words to refute it.

Zarah could not blame them for this. They were obeying Xavier's orders.

Zarah pushed them away. They had no other choice but to follow her.

Vince gave her what she needed and wore it.

She then pushed the door open, which surprised the others in the room.

She was focused on Xavier's surgery that she didn't see the entire setup.

They transformed it into a functional operating room found in the hospital.

"Miss, you're not allowed here," one of them reprimanded Zarah.

Zarah wanted to explain that she would only be observing. However, Dr. Tristan Miller interrupted her.

"Don't mind her. Please focus on your job."

"Yes, Dr. Miller."

They were in the most dangerous part of the surgery. Therefore, they had to be focused.

***

Go, Zarah! Put her in her rightful place!

Xavier, it's not good to hide it from Zarah.

You better watch out for your punishment. You worried and angered Zarah.
