Chapter 80

　　She pressed her hand to her mouth, but the sob broke free. “Not like this.”

　　“Oh, Mira,” his distress was evident in his voice. She heard Victor say something in the background. “I don’t know,” Vice replied to him quietly. “Watch your speed,” he added. “We don’t have time to be pulled over. We should have gone with her from the start,” he was still speaking to Victor.

　　“I am still here,” Vice spoke into the phone to her. “Mira?”

　　“Yes.”

　　“You are not alone, honey,” he said to her. “You are not alone.”

　　“Thank you,” it was exactly what she needed to hear. She blew out a breath, trying to steady herself.

　　“We are at the airport now,” he added, distracted. “Valet parking, Victor.”

　　“Yes,” Victor replied. “We have to go now, honey,” he took the phone from Vice, and she heard the car door open and close as Vice got out, presumably to sort out the valet parking. “Do what Vice said and take a bath. We are coming.”
