Chapter 25: Requests

Cayden POV

At the mansion, it’s surprisingly busy.

Servants are running back and forth, as if in a hurry. Maverick isn’t in the foyer, though, so I venture further in. I stop a maid before she can pass.

“Excuse me, what’s all this about?”

Eyes wide like a deer in headlights, she bows, and stutters, “l-last minute arrangements.”

“For what?”

“Lady Soleil.”

I let her run off. Poor thing seems stressed enough.

Wandering further into the home, I spot Maverick through the glass door to the balcony. He’s leaning on his arms over the railing, and I can see how the wind blows through his hair. His eyes are closed, as if savoring the moment.

It’s a beautiful moment.

Broken as soon as Soleil slithers in, wrapping her arms around him.

My wolf’s hackles rise, and a growl slips from my lips, scaring a passing servant.

I take a deep breath, trying not to lose control, and smile tightly in apology as they back away.
