Chapter 11

Violet Potter was contemplating the merits of murder and every night the pros were gradually overpowering the cons.

Do not get her wrong she simply adored Hogwarts, it was the one place she truly felt like she belonged to. A place where she was free from the 'loving' care of her so called family, that she was fully realizing now, who were shit bags.

In her defense she always knew that the Dursleys were never as 'normal' as they wished to appear. But finally being around people who did not treat her as the bastard child between a whore and a drunkard and actually wanted to know her kinda drove home how bad the Dursleys actually were.

Still Hogwarts had some issues too. Like the fact she was supposed to be some sort of savior messiah celebrity that defeated the most feared dark lord in recent history before she was out of her diapers. Dealing with that kind of image people had in their minds was hard. Especially since that image became even more confusing due to books about her life, a life she definitely didn't live since she had no memories of saving princesses and befriending dragons right before making stops for magical coffee!

One had to wonder what exactly those authors were smoking while writing those books.

In the end dealing with the people's unrealistic expectations and their disappointment when it turned out that she didn't live in a hidden castle with mountains of treasures in it was starting to wear her thin. Not to mention every insensitive asshole wanting to look at her scar, especially ginger ones. Knowing that she got the scar from the man who murdered her parents made her even angrier about it.

She was also irritated that she hadn't been able to talk with Jonathan since the classes started. The closest was seeing him as he walked through the halls or seeing him from afar during meal times in the Ravenclaw table. None of which felt satisfactory when it concerned the boy who was her first friend who was her age.

Sometimes less than pleasant thoughts would appear in her mind. Like Jonathan ignoring her in favor of Greengrass or even the little skank Libra Malfoy. Not that Violet knew what a skank was but she heard her aunt Petunia use it when it concerned her mother so there was no way it was something flattering.

God, or Merlin as they say around here, she just wanted to…

"Hey Violet." To the ends of time no matter who claims otherwise, Violet would always deny that she screamed like a frightened chihuahua.

…she did make a rather impressive impression of a grasshopper with how high she jumped though.

The cause of her sudden fright made it all unimportant at the moment as a smile started to grow on her face with no command from her brain. It was the boy she was just thinking about.

"Quite impressive, guess you can leap over tall buildings as well huh." Jonathan chuckled as Violet made confused Violet noises, not understanding his joke.

"Come now, it is the flight class now and we shouldn't be late. I don't want professor Hooch to glare at me with her hawk eyes." The young man said as he put an arm around her shoulder as they walked toward their class. And at that moment, everything was fine for Violet.

As the first year student pair were going towards their destination, a certain old man was looking through old books and drinking enough coffee to put a baseline human to a coma.

The bitter taste of the brown beverage was not something Dumbledore was exactly fond of, but it kept him awake so his discomfort was a sacrifice he would have to make for the greater good.

Well, more like Violet's good.

It might be something of a poor taste for an educator like himself to take special interest in one student and spend his time focusing on her rather than all students as all professional educators should but Dumbledore never claimed to be perfect. As a matter of fact he always claimed that he wasn't perfect but somehow people around heard his words as:

'Give me more position responsibilities so that I can never have enough time for mundane needs like sleep.' Damn politicians.

Though right now he was less focused on useless things like politics but instead he was focused on the future of the girl who was prophesied to save their asses from his greatest mistake.

Unfortunately it seemed like there really was no way for him to take her out of the Private Drive without her custody ending up at the hands of Malfoy family or some of the other less than pleasant families in their society.

Once more, like every day since ten years ago, he wished that things had ended up differently. He wished that Sirius hadn't betrayed their trust and ended up causing Lily and James' death. He wished that Lestrange brothers, Bellatrix and Crouch Jr hadn't found Longbottoms and tortured them to insanity. But most of all, he wished that Sybill had not uttered that Merlin damned prophecy.

More than once he thought about going against it, to try to find the hole that Tom was hiding so that he could finish the wraith once and for all. But he could not. The prophecy claimed that Voldemort and Violet, one of them would be the one to kill the other. There was nothing Albus could do to change a prophecy.

He learned that the hard way.

What he could do now was to find a way to make young Violet's life more comfortable and find a way to postpone Tom's return as long as he could so that Violet wouldn't face him as a child.

Maybe it was impossible but Dumbledore was not ready to accept that. Before any of his positions or any of the titles given to him, Dumbledore was a teacher, an educator. He was the nurturer and protector of children.

Now if he could find a way to help young Potter's life outside Hogwarts. Maybe he should go around unnoticed and make the Dursleys more... agreeable to be proper human beings.
