Different Than Others

*Noel*

How long is this meeting going to be? All these sales and stock discussions are making me annoyed. Why would I even need to hear these? If it weren't for our Alpha, I wouldn't trouble myself with these people. It's hard being the Beta. I should be out there doing my search. I should be looking for her.

The Moon Goddess blessed me last night. I had seen her. The goddess showed me, my mate. Just thinking about her sends butterflies in my stomach. I have to find out more about her. And because of her confused look yesterday, I suspect she isn't the same as me. The goddess had given me someone different from my kind. She has given me a human mate.

"Mr. Noel, what do you think of the proposed strategy in cutting our production cost?" A question interrupted my thoughts.

"I find it unnecessary but reducing the cost is our top priority." I usually come up with a decision right away but my mind has been flying somewhere else ever since I saw her that night. Her raven hair and deep forest green eyes are constantly in my mind. I smirked to myself thinking that the goddess gave me a challenge, giving me a human mate.

"Sir?"

Whoops, I drifted again. I cleared my throat and continued, "Sorry, what I am saying is that we could try this, for a few months, and see if our costs decreased. Until we see results, I'll make this decision tentatively." My statement caused some members to whisper but that is not my concern for the moment. "Alright, if that is all, can we finish this meeting? I am needed elsewhere." And with that, I let myself out and went straight to my office.

'Well someone's not in the mood.' a voice rang in my mind, a voice I know too well.

'It should've been you in there, Kyle, not me. And there is something I need to do.' Our alpha had mind-linked me, probably to get news from the meeting.

'Bah! And what's more important than a favor from your Alpha? Hmm? Don't lie to me, I can read you.' I sighed in annoyance, putting down some documents that I have to check.

'I have found her, Kyle… my mate.'

'Oh...' Is all that I hoped he would say but, 'OH! Mother would be so thrilled! Little bro had found his mate too!' Yes, that is right, we are brothers.

Though it is rare, the alpha and the beta can be blood-related. It is proven convenient if you are in a pack that favors blood relations. Majority of our pack members are blood relatives so its really not an issue.

'This is good news, we should celebrate tonight! My treat!'

'Wait, I haven't-' Ugh, I wasn't able to finish what I was saying when he suddenly disconnected. I sighed again, well I could at least do some work before his so-called celebration.

After a few hours, Kyle showed up at my office, with a denim jacket over a shirt hugging his bulky build, faded jeans, and black shoes. One would not see him as an alpha male of a wolf pack, though he has his ways. He was grinning at me as he sat by my office chair, with his shoes over my table.

"Would you mind putting your feet down from my table?" I said to him, although he is our Alpha, he is still my brother. He just chuckled but retracted his feet.

"Always so serious little bro, anyway, tell me something about your mate." He straightened up but started playing with some documents on my table, "Which pack does she belong to?" He was browsing the documents like pages of a magazine, which actually irritated me. So I grabbed the documents then arranged them back in their place.

"Stop messing with the documents," I eyed him as he raised his arms from the documents. "She isn't a part of a pack." He got stiff and gave me a look. I knew what that look meant so I added, "She isn't a wolf." This time he looked at me like I just grew two heads.

"Human?!" He exclaimed. "That's even worse than a rogue wolf-"

"Hey!" I interrupted. "You are addressing my mate, Kyle." He scoffs and then finally stands up from my office chair.

"Fine. She's your problem, anyway, not mine." He stuffed his hands in his pockets then lightened up, "So? Shall we go? Liv is waiting by the car." So he really brought her along. I sat back down in my chair and looked at my laptop.

"I'll be down in a minute. Say hi to Luna for me." He saluted then left my office. His presence sometimes makes me annoyed but I can't simply do something about it, he is the Alpha after all. I then received a notification from one of my subordinates who brought me good news. He had found her.

I sent out one of my subordinates to track my mate's whereabouts from where I saw her. Now, he has given me his findings. I opened the attached document and skimmed through it. It says that she just turned twenty-five yesterday and works in an IT company. My mate is a smart woman. She was also born in a different country, so that is why I only saw her recently. And her name, the name that my heart will yearn for the rest of my life, is Jenny.

It gave me pleasure just by reading facts about her. We have been taught that our mates complete ourselves, not finding your mate will lead one wolf to loneliness and will die horribly. Our mates are our source of happiness and the love that we deserve. Wolves who found their mates early are said to be the luckiest, for they will spend their lifetime blissfully in their mates' arms. Kyle met his mate, Olive or Liv as he calls her when he turned eighteen, which was the age of maturity and awakening. How would a wolf find their mate? Simple, you will feel the attraction and you get addicted to their scent. Once you have laid eyes on each other, it is irresistible. You can control it but you can't escape it. You would want to be in each other's arms no matter what. I was daydreaming about my mate when an annoyed alpha mink-linked me, 'You said a minute!'. I sighed deeply and went out of my office. I guess I'll dream of her later.

A grumpy alpha stared at me while I approached him by a parked car by the side of the road. I smirked at him with the intention of getting him more annoyed. It worked and I earned myself a glare. He was about to say something when a voice in the car gained both our attention.

"You boys should probably get in the car before I smack your heads together." I gulped, Liv seemed to be more annoyed than Kyle. We both said 'Yes ma'am' before hurrying to hop in the car. Liv may look innocent but she's a strong wolf. She is nearly as strong as Kyle and no less than me. She is also a daughter of a former Sentinel, thus knowledgeable of the duties and responsibilities of being an alpha or a beta. Liv is good with children too, which Kyle extremely loves about her. We really have a capable Luna.

"So Noel," Liv asked me from the passenger seat, "I've heard you found your mate?". I looked at her and smiled.

"Yes, I did."

"And her being human?"

"That too, yes Liv, she is human."

She hummed then sat up properly. "Why does the Goddess always give you the thrilling stuff.". I then chuckle, does she always? Then Kyle exclaimed with a sulky expression, "What do you mean thrilling?".

"Don't worry Honey, being with you is still the most thrilling thing in my life," And that may seem to tame the alpha down but then she continued, "But all the trouble seems to land at Noel's lap, being mated to a human is such a hassle, accepting our kind isn't really the easiest thing to do."

"Hah!" Kyle exclaimed again, "He can handle it, don't worry."

"Oho, I'm not worried, I'm actually excited." She checked herself by the visible side mirror, "I hope she likes shopping."

We arrived at a resto-bar, a bit crowded to my liking but Kyle and Olive liked going to places like these so I let it pass, for now. And an addition to my entertainment is when both of them get so worked up whenever the other is getting attention. Kyle would release a low growl while Olive would get so touchy. It's hilarious seeing others feel uncomfortable with them then backs off. I was enjoying this little drama before me when a familiar scent flew through my nose.

That amazing minty sweet scent, I stood up and followed it. And just by the corner, there was a table with four people. There were three ladies and a man, one of the ladies had those deep forest green eyes that fascinated me so much. My heart throbbed louder as my realization hit me, it was her.

However, her hurt expression got me curious. Who had dared to make my mate feel like that?
