"You've been waiting all this time?" Hannah asked in disbelief.
Gracie pulled something out of her shirt and Kyzi's heart skipped a beat when he saw what it was. That necklace was made with one of his scales! It was so much tinier than they were now.
"I never forgot. How could I? He's the only one who's ever really cared about me."
Hannah's expression crumbled and she surged forward to hug the girl, who was rather surprised. "I'm so sorry, Gracie! I never would have sent you back if I knew. Yzranth said your mom was relieved to see you so I thought—"
"It's not your fault," Gracie insisted. "You're a good mom so of course you'd assume that she would be like you."
That didn't seem to make her feel any better because she burst into tears. She almost never cried so Kyzi felt rather helpless. His dad would know how to handle this better than he did.
