Chapter 8
The dinner was a peaceful one, and one in which her mother was smiling; that, of course, was disturbing to Rose. The last thing she wanted to see was pain on her face and not happiness; as she pondered what was going on, her father spoke
"Rose Dear."
Dear? "Yes, dad." She rises up her head smiling
"How would you like to study in Paris?" her father asked, gaining the attention of everyone at the dinner, expect her mother.
Is he seriously asking her that, she has been looking for a way to escape like forever, so of course she would like to, but she can't be too excited as not to rouse their suspicious "well, if such an opportunity, were to exist I don't see why, I wouldn't like to." Rose said calmly
"Great." Father said, smiling, then handed an already processes document to the maid to give it to her. As she took it from the maid, he explained "that's a three years enrollment in one of the best doctoring training school in Paris, you said you'll like to be a doctor, so this will help you in a lot of way, although it won't make you a doctor, but it will definitely prepare you for it, instead of waiting for years at home to write the doctoring exam. So what do you think?"
At of Excitement, Rose leaps from her sit to her father's "what do I think? It's amazing father, thank you." She said with sincerity in her heart, she has always wanted to be a doctor but because of what has been happening to her, she forgot about it. At least even if she really wanted to study in Paris, it will also be a way for her to escape; that's what she thought until her father said
"Well, thank your mother, she came up with it."
"Oh, nonsense, dear, I was only doing what every mother will do." Her mother said and smiled.
Rose turned and just stared at her mother with utter disgust in her face. Now everything makes sense. This was why she was happy.
So, this so-called enrollment was her way of getting reed of her, for a second again Rose forgot about her plan to escape and even her own dream of becoming a doctor, if getting reed of her was gonna put a smile on mother's face, then there is no way in hell, she is gonna let that happen.
Calmly she went back to her sit, smiled at her father, then added "Oh, she did." She paused, then "well, you shouldn't have. I don't mind waiting four years at home to write the doctoring exams, dad, so I am gonna decline."
"What rubbish." Her mother bloated at in angers "your father already decided, he even prepares the documents, so you can't decline, you are going, and that's final."
"Oh, is that right? This is about me, mother, not Gloria, who has her every choice made for her, and we should be clear on one thing. I am not interested in anything that comes from you." She stood up, about to leave..
"Rose, sit down." John said, he might to keep quiet and let her make the final decision, if it wasn't something that will benefit her, he would not have allowed it, and he knows how much she hated her mother but, he watched her sit down hectically "I understand how you feel about this, okay."
"Do you really, dad? Cause if you do, you won't be sending me away." She said, hold her tear back.
"What? Why will I do that?" He asked with a pained expression, "you know if this wasn't gonna help you I wouldn't have allowed it. Instead of sitting at home, you will be out there preparing yourself, making yourself strong, becoming a new person, learning new things, making friends and all you ever want to do."
"You don't need to force her to it dear; she can do whatever she likes for all I care." Mrs. Black added jadedly
"Keep quiet, Vivian." Father scolded her, while he waited for Rose's to answer. When she didn't, he said
"It's only for three years, Rose, and not forever. When you return, I promise things are gonna change. So please think about it."
Rose just stare at her hands for a while, yes she hated that her mother came up with the idea, she also knows what such an idea means to her plan, but her father was right, she could learn new things, for once become her own person, a person who can stand on her own.
The person who can put her mother where she belongs, she could learn of the original method to make mother suffer. So when she thinks of it as going to a training, it doesn't feel bad, so for now, mother can be happy; happy that she has finally succeeded to get reed of her.
Rose decided she won't run away anymore. By then she will be twenty – one, an age where she can do anything.
With that, she took a deep breath, rise her head, "Okay dad, I will try it."
John signed out, in relief, "that's my girl."
"When will I be leaving?" Rose asked
"Oh, two weeks from now, but I will go with you, since it's the first time." He replied as he handled the document to her, "go through it. If there is anything you want to change, let me know."
"Okay." She took the document from him
Gloria who stayed silent and watch everything unfold, was mad, she never got such opportunity why her, as he looked from Rose hand to her face, and saw her staring at her, she quickly masked her angry expression , and smiled "congratulation Rose." she said through clutch teeth
"Gee, thanks, sis, but you don't need to force yourself." She smiled back and turned to her father. "Can I go to my room now?"
"Of course, prepare your things as well." John was glad. She accepted because his wife was desperate, and he didn't know what another action she might decide to take.
"Sure dad." Rose stood up and head for her room; she needed to prepare for her training.
Two – week later
Rose came down in a hurry, her belonging was already in the car, and her father was waiting for her.
As she descended the stairs, her mother and sister were chatting happily in the sitting; probably happy that the distasteful child in the family was leaving. She could not help it, and walked over to them
"Wow, you guys look so happy, am hurt."
"Why don't you go ahead, Rose? Dad is waiting for you." Gloria said, a little annoyed, while mom was sniping her wine.
"Oh, I will, but before that." She leans a little closer to her mother. "I know you set this up to get reed of me, but that was your biggest mistake. The only reason, you could treat me the way you did; was because we stayed together, and you are always watching my every move, but now I am going to a new place, a new home for three years." She strengthens herself, "so be happy now that you have gotten reed of me, but watch out mother, cause when I return, and oh yes I will return, YOU. ARE. GOING. TO. BE SORRY. VIVIAN BLACK; so please don't die, don't get tired, and up your game because by doing so, you are going to make it more fun for me." She grins widely, as she saw the dead expression on her mother's face.
"Hey Rose, don't you think you are going too far? How could you say such …...?"
"Oh shut up Gloria, why don't you mind your own business, and don't you think it's about time for you to become a mother? Please do that while I am away; cause only then will I have enough words to say to you."
Then her father, who has been waiting in the car, came through the door. "What are you doing, Rose? Let's go, we have little time."
"Okay, dad, I was just saying my goodbye." She said as she hurried to her father's side.
"Goodbyes shouldn't be that long, and it's not as if, you won't be seeing them again."
"You are right, father." She followed him out but stopped and turned to her mother. "Oh, mom I forgot to tell you, please don't get pregnant, because if you do; I plan on making that child experience every pain, heartache, disgrace that you made me go through right from when I was young, it's going to be BAD, so yeah, that's all bye, bye." She happily rushed out,
As soon as Mrs. Black heard that, she gasped, head on to her stomach, a sudden fear just came over her. Little did Rose know that her mother was actually pregnant by that time?
As Rose came out of the House, the joyous expression suddenly died. The courage she had a while back disappeared as well.
She bent down and tears up. John watched his daughter with her head down for a while, then went up to her, embracing her, as she embraced him back.
"Am scared, father, what if I can't do it? What if I mess up?" she was saying more than studying and John knew, as he hugged her tighter, he encouraged her.
"You will be fine, Rose, you will show them that, and you are my daughter and I have faith that you will do okay."
"Thanks, father, for always been there for me." She hugs in tighter.
"That's what fathers are for, come." He took her to the car, but Rose turned one last time to look at her home.
"It's not going anywhere; it will still be here when you return. "Yes, of course I will, can't wait for that day to come." They haven't left, but she was looking forward to the day. She will return. With that, they took off.
After this chapter... the next one will be three years later, following her experience at the doctoring camp in Paris.
