Scarlet opened her eyes and saw an unfamiliar ceiling.
"You're awake."
She slowly looked on the side after hearing that familiar voice.
"Amethyst," she weaky said.
Amethyst was about to open her mouth when the door opened and came an unfamiliar face.
"You're awake Scarlet," she greeted without looking at Amethyst.
Amethyst looked at Scarlet and could see that she couldn't recognize the intruder either.
"I am Clara Thompson, a friend of Slate and I am here to look after you. I am done with my duty and heard of what had happened."
Scarlet nodded her head but before she could say more, Clara looked at Amethyst.
"You must be the caretaker. You can go home now, I will look after her for Slate."
Amethyst wanted to raise an eyebrow. Not only because of her attitude but because she was acting as if she was close to the siblings when Scarlet didn't even know her until now.
Scarlet placed her hand on top of Amethyst's hand when Amethyst didn't say anything and just stared at Clara who was feeling at home in the hospital room.
"Her name is Amethyst and she is not the caretaker, she is a good friend. And right now I want to speak with her so could you please leave us alone?" Scarlet said with a smile that didn't even reached her eyes.
"Oh... uhmmm... I'm sorry I thought you were the caretaker. And Uhmmm I told Slate I will look after you while he is still on duty," Clara back down and became uncertain as to how to approach Scarlet.
"I will tell him that I had you leave and that Amethyst can take care of me just fine. Please leave the room because I really want to speak with her alone. It is nice to meet you once again miss Thompson," Scarlet said.
Her tone left Clara with no choice but to juts leave but she didn't forgot to glare at Amethyst.
"Wow, I was just sitting here not even saying anything," Amethyst complained.
She was feeling agitated enough for being treated as someone lower.
No matter what your work is, even if that is as a caretaker or maid, it is still a proper job that no one should look down at it.
Scarlet sighed tiredly, she just woke up and was still feeling weak, why must that person come now when she still has something to say to Amethyst?
"I apologize for that, my brother is just that much of a heartthrob that a lot would want to get to my good graces just so I could compliment them in front of Slate," Scarlet said once again sighing.
Amethyst shrugged, she was really not that interested with them anyway.
"Anyway, there is something else I need to apologize about after I thank you for helping me out. Seeing you here means that the voice I heard before I completely lost consciousness was yours. Thank you for coming to save me."
"You really don't have to, I was there to return your key but ended up hearing something crashing inside then your caretaker came. If it was someone else I am sure that they would have the same," Amethyst replied rubbing the back of her neck.
Scarlet smiled and didn't push it any longer, she has more serious things she needs to talk about.
"I need to apologize for what we have done and without even telling you about it despite all the time we could have told you," she then said looking apologetic towards Amethyst.
Amethyst was silent for a bit before opening her mouth, "I really was not mad, I was hurt and Slate had explained it to me a while ago. I just don't know how to face you after knowing that when all the pain suddenly returned in one go."
"We... really have no intention to hurt you or to betray you. I never had any plans on bringing up the fact that you were an author. But I just became happy knowing that I had someone close who can understand me. Maybe because I was dying an d that I want to finish one last project, I had forgotten about your feelings."
She was breathing heavily because she was still feeling weak but she wanted to say everything now.
Amethyst has trusted them, she felt it and she felt even guiltier because the pain in Amethyst's eyes before she left back then was clearly visible.
Amethyst nodded her head, "I knew. I know of it right now and I knew it back then. You have no such intention and I reacted that way because I myself haven't moved forward from my past yet."
"I'm really sorry Amethyst, you don't have to do anything more but I want to befriend you because you are a wonderful person."
"You are a wonderful person as well..."
Then she stared straight in Scarlet's eyes.
"Can you tell me who you truly are and what is this last project of yours? Then I will know how I will move forward from here on," she added.
Amethyst wanted to help, that is what she had decided after her talk with Slate a while ago. But she needs to know this time, so that she wouldn't be caught off guard as to what ever it is she will discover in the future.
"No, it is fine. I-"
"I have started it. I was planning on returning your key and was planning to step back for now but as I stayed here and looked at you I suddenly remembered one thing I was unable to finish before abandoning my other life," Amethyst replied.
"Unfinished?" Scarlet asked.
Amethyst smiled sadly, "An unfinished child."
"Can you tell me what had happened?" Scarlet finally asked after hearing this.
Normally she would also refer to her stories as her children, to hear Amethyst say that she had an unfinished child, somehow Scarlet understood that it was one of her stories.
Amethyst looked at her before sighing as she slowly talked about her past.
How she had talked about her stories to her sister working in a publishing company until that point where she found out that her sister took her identity.
Scarlet could feel the pain in her every word.
"I don't know how to feel back then, whether to get mad or to feel pained. Just that after knowing you guys knew of who I am and didn't say a word, I suddenly remembered that time where the whole world seems dark to me."
"I'm really sorry about that and I am sorry that sorry is all I can say right now," Scarlet admitted because she knew she will not understand how that must have felt.
Amethyst took a deep breath, "So what is this last project of yours?"
"Did you not feel any connection towards me when we spoke?" Scarlet asked.
Amethyst slowly shook her head.
Scarlet on the other hand chuckled, "I guess it was not always and everyone does not feel that connection towards someone of the same profession."
"Profession? You're an author," Amethyst said shock at the same time not because she already had a feeling and all she needed was confirmation.
"Would you believe me if I tell you that I am..."
Amethyst's eyes went wide after hearing her name.
"Ms. Night."
