Possibility for a future

A buzzing noise penetrated her consciousness, echoing around the house. She was still too disoriented to pay attention to it, although the sound was unfamiliar, thinking it was probably just part of a dream.

"Don't get up… Go back to sleep… I'll get it…" She heard a very familiar voice said faintly in her ears, close enough for her to feel a slight tingling sensation as his breathe brushed to her skin. She felt the bed moved, and later on, heard the door of the room opened and closed.

She questioned if it was still a dream, but it felt so real as if Raf was just talking to her just now, not just a figment of her imagination. She commanded her right hand to tap her face, only to find out that indeed she was not sleeping but quite awake.

She stretched her body only to feel her left foot still slightly throbbing in pain, recalling the accident that happened yesterday. Then, she rubbed her eyes to scrub away the heaviness in them.

"Oh no…," she gasped, opening her eyes wide to discover that she was not in her room. Flashback of last night swiftly made her aware of her current situation.

She remembered that after he cleaned and bandage her wound, they started making out in the living room, unable to keep their hands away from each other. They only stopped when her stomach growl, reminding her of the little food she had consumed the whole day.

As the dinner progress, she made sure to enjoy the remaining moment she had with him. Savoring the delicious dishes he had prepared for her.

"Raf, I had something important to tell you." She clearly remembered telling him that. They just finished eating and were about to clear the plates.

"What about?" He started asking, putting his attention on her.

"It has something to do…" She paused for a second, inhaling deeply as he patiently waited, "….about me." She lowered her head, not able to look him in the eye. "A secret that I have to share with you." She continued hastily before she lost the nerve to say it.

"We all have secrets. I'm sure whatever it is, it could not be that bad unless you killed someone." He said humorously, smiling at her, sensing the difficulty she was having. He figured that whatever it was, it could not be that bad as the way she sounded. He wanted her to feel comfortable telling him anything that was bothering her.

"You might see me differently after you hear what I'm about to tell you." Closing her eyes, trying to control the tears that threaten to roll down in her eyes. Her hands were trembling from underneath the table on her lap, she never felt this nervous in her whole life. Nothing frightened her more than losing him.

"Nothing you would say could change what I feel about you." He assured her, lifting her face to him, as he gazed straight into her eyes. "I love you, Sky." He repeated, making sure that she understood his sentiment.

A light knock on the front door interrupted them, making them stop. "We can talk about it later." He said as he stood up to answer the door.

"But…" She wanted to tell him now while she still dared to say it, but he was already by the door, opening it.

Hearing his words, gave her hope that he might see the humor behind this and accept her for who she truly was. At least it was something she could hold on to while she waited for another chance to tell him.

A minute later, Baxter was moving towards her, laying just beneath her chair. "Hi! Baxter, how are you boy?" Patting the dog just under his ears as she sat down on the floor to his level. The dog remained silent, comforted by her ministration, clearly not happy with his trip to the vet.

"Doc said that he would be feeling a bit down today because of the shot he had, but he will be up and good by tomorrow," Gerry explained to Raf as they stood by the door. He did not bother to come in, excusing that he still had an errand to finish.

He immediately knelt beside Baxter, joining her in consoling his painful experience with the doctor. He usually went with him, but today, he was too distracted by her condition. He wanted to make sure that she was ok.

Baxter finally had enough of the pity party and moved under the stairs where he laid down on his bed, leaving the two of them on the floor.

"Baxter is really…" She was not able to finish her sentence when he took her lips and kissed her passionately.

Her thoughts went out the window as soon as he invaded her mouth and her consciousness. The sensation of his touch was the only thing that she could concentrate on, drowning everything else to the back of her mind.

"What have you done?" She whispered, chastising herself for making her life more complicated by sleeping with him. Having a taste of something that great, then losing him would only make her situation worse.

She quickly sat up from the bed and looked around the room. It was a huge room with a nice view of the ocean. She vaguely remembered it last night since she was focused on something else, or rather someone in particular.

She grabbed her glasses on the nightstand and the gray blanket, wrapping herself around it. Scanning the place for her scattered clothes, she found them on the floor, still slightly wet from the rain. She could not wear those, so she decided to look through his closet in search of dry clothes she could borrow.

She adjusted the string on the sweat pants to tighten it around her waist, folding the bottom, so it was not too long. She also found a tight-fitting sweatshirt with a hood, which was still big for her, but would do for now.

Looking at the huge mirror in his walk-in closet, she noticed that her fake mole and eyebrow were starting to fade. It was a clear sign that she had to end her charade before he found out for himself. It was best that it came from her and not for him to find out in another way.

She should have stopped him last night, but the intensity of her need to be with him prevented her from doing so. She wanted him as much as he wanted her, but now it was time to face the consequence of her actions. If she was to lose him, at least, she had one last memory of him that she would cherish for the rest of her life.

But then again, remembering his words last night. Hope still sprung from the bottom of her heart. Maybe there was still a chance that he might forgive her, a possibility for a future for the two of them.
