GRINDELWALD

It was on a weekend that I was getting ready to share a new theory about how a person can control elements without the need for an external medium such as a wand with Bathilda when I sensed another presence in her house. It was well known that she was a loner with no known relatives in Britain. I readied my wand as I entered her house ready to stun the intruder without giving him or her a chance to retaliate and then apparate with Bathilda to my house so as to be assured of her safety and then notify the related ministry personnel.

As I was formulating a plan to resolve the situation quickly and effectively and entered the house I was surprised to see a game of wizard chess ongoing in the living room, with a young man sitting opposite Bathilda and upon observing the game for a brief moment I was stunned to see that it was not Bathilda who was winning but rather the young man who was not only winning but was destroying all paths of victory for one of the most brilliant minds of our time.

I was so intrigued by the ongoing game that I completely forgot to inform the people present of my presence. I was a brilliant young wizard who had shown a performance such that it was a first in the history of Hogwarts, this had made me a tad overconfident in my magic so much so that in this moment I had been absolutely certain that I was not to be found until I undid the spell that had kept me hidden for the sneak attack I had planned. In the living room one was a brilliant mind with below average magic performance and the other was a young guy no older than me, and I had yet to meet a person of the same age who stood on equal grounds of me. This in combination with my thorough preparation had me keep my guard down while being engrossed in the ongoing game in the hall.

I was suddenly taken out of my trance when I felt my body go numb and twisting such that I was bound by an invisible rope. I started panicking and had my senses spread throughout the vicinity to search for the party I could not see nor sense even after being vigilant to the extreme. It came as a surprise when I was unable to sense another presence apart from the two in the hall. The previously calm boy opposite Bathilda was now showing a look of genuine surprise when the invisibility charm around me was undone. I thought the surprise was from my sudden appearance in the room but was stunned the very next moment when I heard Bathilda commanding the young man to undo the spell on me as I was a guest in the house and how it was impolite to treat guests with malice.

As I was set free and handed a soothing refreshment by the young man towards whom I was looking with utmost curiosity, I turned my attention towards Bathilda to explain what I was doing sneaking into her house. As I recalled the circumstances leading unto me being tied up I heard the young man letting out a laughter and mentioning to her that it was surprising to see someone care for her safety even while living so secluded from the general world. Bathilda then introduced me to the young man, we both shook hands and introduced ourselves and that was the first time I got to know the name Gellert Grindelwald.

Bathilda got up from her position saying that she was off to tend to her garden and that it would be a good opportunity for Gellert to be challenged and come out of the boredom that he fells with the lack of it. After she left the room Gellert was observing me not with his eyes but rather magic which was surprising me as well as him when I was easily able to detect his senses know that I paid attention. He then answered my questioning gaze with saying that he did hear of a prodigal genius coming out of Hogwarts this year but had thought that it was just an exaggeration to promote their own propagandas and that he was happy to meet someone who could now understand and challenge his views as he sweeps the mysteries of magic.

I was intrigued to say the least because I had not heard of such an amazing kid who could rival me in not just magic capacity and versatility but theory and tactics. As I questioned him about the lack of my knowledge when I was sure that such genius would be definitely well known, he responded by saying that it was not necessary to show his brilliance until he his powerful enough to cause changes with his own two hands. I was surprised to hear that a young man who has just graduated from his magical studies would have dreams of changing something and that to without gaining political power but rather purely by superior strength.

As we sat down to play a game of magical chess ourselves we exchanged whatever information and rumors one had heard about each others school. it was fun for a time to meet someone of the same age who could hold onto a conversation on the same pace and level and came as a pleasant surprise for both of us. the game also carried on with neither party gaining a advantage of another for well over two hours, after which we had to stop our game on Bathilda's request to continue it some other time as I had my siblings waiting for me at home to provide supper.

I was reluctant to go after finally finding a compatible acquaintance but knew I had to leave due to the siblings I had at home. Both me and Gellert decided to write frequently as i could only come over on weekends due the different odd jobs I had been doing. This hope for proper intellectual correspondence had my mood lifted as I left for home. It was if I had found a missing piece to my incomplete puzzle which had make happy after many months of frustration.
