Chapter 46: Garza and Chavez

We descended in Mazatlán as the deep yellow sun was framed in an artist’s palette of orange, magenta and purple. Below us the city stretched along the coast and a luminous beacon pieced the nascent evening sky from a mountaintop lighthouse. To the east I witnessed landing lights of the airport. Ali cleared approach from the traffic tower and started our descent. I was immensely impressed with his professionalism and noted to tell him so later. We landed smoothly and taxied on the runway and came to a halt one-hundred yards from the gate. When the whirling propellers came to a rest the passengers expressed a collective sigh and removed their seatbelts. I removed my headphones and asked what they thought of the flight.

“So far, So Bueno!” The young man replied.

“Have a nice time in Mexico and good luck.” I said.

“Good luck?” He queried.

“Yeah, with the fishing!”

“Oh, yeah, with the fishing… Thanks dude!”
